Stupid Alton Brown, making me want granola with his shows! Does anybody have a recipe for GF granola bars? Preferably without oats.  _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Yeah, but did you see what he did with the rice crispy treat? It's like he read my mind...!
(sorry I don't have a recipe for the granola bar....) _________________ Cheers!

GF Granola
1/2 c. tapioca starch
1/2 c. brown rice flour
1/4 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 c. oil
1/4 c. honey
1/2 c. GF cornflakes
1/4 c. sliced almonds
1/4 c. coconut
1/8 to 1/4 c. raisins
Mix the tapioca starch, brown rice flour, walnuts and cinnamon. In a pot, heat oil and honey. Add to flour and stir it up so it's crumbly. Add the cornflakes, sliced amonds, and coconut. Stir so it's still crumbly. Spread on a pan, bake at 250 degrees for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Add the raisins when granola is cool.
One thing to try would be to save a bit of the oil/honey mixture out from the crumble and drizzling that on the cornflake/almond/coconut mix and then adding it to the crumble part.
We used tapioca starch instead of arrowroot powder, and just doubled the brown rice flour because we didn't have any buckwheat flour as called for in the original recipe. We also doubled the recipe, because it was plenty good!
From Molly at the Braintalk board.

I just use puffed rice and fruits and nuts (plus some honey and cocoa powder or vanilla or other flavoring in the melted marshmallows) in the rice kripsy treat recipe and call them granola bars and pretend they are good for me .
Honey, rasin, almond sliver, crushed banana chips now I've gotta go make some . _________________ Lauren

Also, Bakery on Main makes some FABULOUS GF granola!
Even my cat will attest to that fact! Yes, little Emmett and I both like the GF Nutty Cranberry Maple (or something like that) granola! _________________ ~Torrey

Remember, if it crumbles it has less calories. LOL
Thanks for the recipe Al! Is there something you can substitute for the coconut? I'm really not a big coconut fan. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Wow, a gourmet cat. I agree with Torrey they make really great granola, just not really great for the waist. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |

I third that motion - I justify it by telling myself there's flax seeds in there - fiber is good for me! _________________ Cheers!

Hey Al - the granola recipe link you posted above isn't working, and there doesn't seem to be a way for me to search that forum. Would it be possible for you to update it?
My son cannot tolerate the GF oats, and I am looking for a good GF granola recipe. Looks like the one you posted has gone through some modifications, and I would like to see the original.
Thanks for any help! _________________ -Colleen
