Hi there,
I am new here and have recently gone GF in an attempt to get my stomach problems under control. Things are much better, but not perfect. I have noticed that my ususally reddish nose (which had become even more pronounced in recent months) seems to be less red. And despite the intense heat around here, the HOT feet that plague me at night are considerably better.

Is this in my head or are these things related to CD? Has anyone heard of a connection with Restless Legs Syndrome? My family background is pure Irish and everyone has these red noses and a few of us have foot issues - restless and hot.

Thanks

Hi Newb,

Have they ever checked you for Rosacia [redness of face]? It's good to hear that it's getting better! Are your feet really hot to the touch - or do they just "feel" hot to you? It could related to peripheral neuropathy [nerve damage].

You sound like my wife - she's going thru perimenopause and has hot legs and feet at night. In the middle of the night, the covers go flying off... Wink

Welcome Newbie! Nice user name. Wink I was thinking Rosacia like Al. What about your stomach problems? You said they're getting better, but not quite. What's still happening?

Thanks for the speedy responses. Here is a bit more background...

My feet get crazy hot at night and they feel hot mainly just to me, but they are visibly swollen and red. They were always hotter at night, but this really intensified when I became pregnant. Through pregnancy I would go to bed with cans from the fridge in the bed by my feet and would still get up half way through the night to sit on the patio and cool my feet on the concrete.

My symptoms/problems have mainly been bad gas, aches in my lower back (kidneys?), aches in my abdomin (large intestine?), weight loss (I am normally underweight to begin with), rosacea---red nose, mouth ulcers, and just before I started cutting out wheat I had on several occasions a bizarre tingling in my face, shoulders and neck that felt like that weird sensation you get before you vomit, but without nausea. This occured with increasing frequency over about a week and the last time it occured it had happened about 5 times that day. Very Freaky.

All of these symptoms seem to have appeared or intensified in the last few
months when my little one was about a year old. I have heard that childbirth can bring on CD...

I really don't know if this is CD, but, since I have cut out gluten, I have noticed a remarkable decrease in all the above symptoms. I have not followed the strict diet, in that I am still throwing caution to the wind and occasionally eating something that "shouldn't " have wheat in it, but could be cross contaminated. Thus I still have gas and my stools aren't quite normal, but both of these issues are greatly improved from where they were a couple of weeks ago.

GEEZ! that was a lot of very personal information in a very short period of time! ahhhhhh...someone to finally talk to about this stuff. Does this sound like CD to you?

Hi Newb,

Yeah, many of your symptoms (sx's) are consistent with CD. It's possible it maybe Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity too.

I can understand doing a GF trial - it's an easy way to tell if you're on the right track. Be aware - before you get much further into this, if want to try to get a definite answer - you need to get a Complete Celiac Panel run before you go GF completely. In order for those tests to be as accurate as they can be, you must be consuming gluten!

Don't worry about TMI [too much information Wink], it's just a matter of course around here Smile

Yes, pregnancy, infection, illness, surgery, stress can set your body into overdrive.

Good luck in your knowledge quest!! Please, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Here's some more info for you:

Our Thread on Dr. Scot Lewey Articles - Very interesting info from a Gastro Doc that is gluten & dairy sensitive. Definitely worth reading!

Gosh, I coulda wrote most of that. In the winter I am ice cold, in the summer I tend to stick my feet out the end of the bed because I am too hot. I joke my temp needs to be in a narrow window.

Since I started my GF journey & before (leading up to it) I developed reflux, GERD, rosacea, that tingling you talked about (in the head is scary!). There were times I was sure I would vomit, other times I wish I could (nausea). I too thought something was wrong with my kidneys but it was just more stomach pain, maybe dyspepsia. I'd add joint pains and fatigue. I had mouth sores too, sort of like big blood blisters in my mouth....these I no longer have. I too don't have weight to lose.

Unfortunately, I don't have a diagnosis since my doctor is an egghead and I'm not going back on gluten to get one. In fact, I'm sort of scared at how sensitive I have become - I had a wheat free tortilla at Guide camp and was nauseated and headachy all evening and most of the next day, the kind of a headache a tylenol barely touches. I definitely need GLUTEN free.
