Chili's WOW! :)

My friend took me out to Chili's for lunch yesterday. I was a little scared because the only places I have dared to eat at were P.F Changs and Outback. I talked to the manager first and asked if the cooks knew about cross contamination and how educated they were. He told me that they all went through a rigourous course on prep and cross contaimination for allergens.
I got the guitless salmon, loaded mashed potato and fresh vegis. It was really good and no stomach ache. Very Happy

I'm so glad I can feel confident at another resturaunt.

My husband took me to the new Chili's in our town and I became very ill a few hours after eating off their "GF" menu. It was so bad, I could barely eat anything for almost a week.I was very saddened, because there are so few places to eat GF in our town.

On the up side, when he took me to a fancy restaurant named Candlestick Inn, the chef came to my table because they did not have any GF items on menu.He is a graduate of CIA and had limited experience with GF cooking.

I was served an incredible meal that the chef created just for me, I had a wonderful meal overlooking the lake and had no problems what so ever.

It was wonderful to have such great attention, and because he did not have anything to initially offer me - my meal was on the house!

It's been my experience that Chili's vary depending on how educated the management is. My mom likes to go out to lunch when I visit her - there are two Chilis close to her house. In one I've had pretty good success and never gotten sick. The other one - well, let's not go there (literally). I've had similar experiences with Ruby Tuesdays - ask lots and lots of questions and if you aren't happy with the answers, eat somewhere else.

Yah I have downgraded Chili's in my opinion! I was really excited at first because it was the first time I had been out to eat after going gluten-free and on the first few trips I didn't get sick.

After about the third trip I did get sick. I'm sure it has everything to do with the individual staff on hand and the crowd on a given night, but I've had better statistical luck at Outback Cool

I will have to concur that Chili's is risky business. I have always taken in their "Gluten" Free menu (I believe it really says "Allergen Free" on the menu) and showed them the menu I printed from their website. Not once (even returning to the same restaruant many times did they ever hear of Gluten or Allergens. Though the manager always gets involved and really trys to help out, I have found they just do not get it. I give them all the credit for all their efforts but until they understand about Gluten/Allergens and cross contamination -- I will stay away. My experience has not been good. One time, I received a little business card with their 800 number which said they are not liable for any illnessess from their food etc, etc and of course the choice to eat there was all mine. Outback has been the safest place I have found for national chains.

We were told by a server and one of the managers at our local Chili's that the steaks were pre-marinated. Because of that statement, I am afraid to eat something from the grill. The manager was reluctant to suggest anything from their menu that would be safe. Needless to say, I did not eat anything from their menu, even a salad. I get so sick when I have been exposed to gluten and it is just not worth it to me anymore unless I know for sure that the kitchen help knows what they are doing.
