|
|
I have a recipe that calls for whole almonds that are to be ground into meal. It gives a measurement for the whole almonds, but does not give a measurement for the end product after grinding. I, of course, have no almonds but do have lots of almond meal
Do any of you grind your own almonds into meal? I know it can be done in the food processor but have never done it. Can you fill in the X and Y in his equation:
When ground, X cups of whole almonds equals Y cups of almond meal.
Hope you can answer this math question. If not, I have one about 2 trains heading toward each other that might fix you. _________________ -Colleen

Hmmm...do you have a digital scale? A whole almond should weigh about the same as a ground almond, NO?
Maybe some can weigh a cup of whole almonds and you can weigh your ground almonds? _________________ Al

Sorry - I'm useless. I've ground almonds into meal to make biscotti but it's been ages....
Off the top of my head... by volume I'm thinking it was about 1/2. However in this case I think Al's on the right track to go by weight. _________________ Cheers!

OK - I am obsessed now. I did find the following on the web
| Quote: | | 1/4 pound whole nuts yields about 1 cup nut meal. |
So it looks like I need to go buy 1/4 pound of almonds and measure them out in a measuring cup. Or maybe I could sneak my measuring cups into the health food store and measure them. Cue the Mission Impossible theme song...... _________________ -Colleen

OK all you math wizards. You can put down your pencils. I bought a pound of whole almonds. It measures 3-1/4 cups. A pound of almond meal measures 4 cups. So it appears that to convert a measure of almonds to almond meal, one needs to multiply the measure by around 1.20%. so the equation should be
When ground, 1 cup of whole almonds equals 1.2 cups of almond meal.
