I was wondering if anyone tends to run a fever if they have gluten.
Matthew with no other cold of flu symptoms will run a fever. And it most always happens after he gets gluten.
By accident, I gave him tacos with wheat flour in the seasoning, and now today he's running a fever of 101.5 most always when this happens it's just under 101. and never goes over 102.
I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else
TIA

Hi Kristie,
I haven't heard too many people talk about this. But I will tell you...I remember curling up on living room floor, chilled, shivering & shaking (fully expecting to die) - while covered up after eating a PILE of saltines & a bowl of clam chowder! _________________ Al

Al,
Awww, I'm sorry that is a memory for you. But I couldn't help from thinking it may be one of his symptoms. We'll see what developes. Hopefully, it'll just pass after today.

Hi Kristie,
Thankfully, that's ALL it is now...just a memory!
I hope Matthew starts to feel better soon. Poor guy _________________ Al

Hi Kristie,
2 months before I got diagnosed, I was getting sick every couple of weeks which I know now was the gluten and it mainly caused me vomiting and a fever of 101-102 that lasted me 3 days. Although most people get the big "D", that wasn't one of my main symptoms prior to my diagnosis. |

That has always been Matthew's #1 symptom before, but thinking back, he's always ran fevers, back then he was cutting teeth. However, now that all of his teeth are in (for now) it has to be from something else. Thanks for the confirmation.
He spiked up again tonight, hopefully, it'll brake over night.... Mom has to be extra extra careful.
We're going out of town next week to my mom's for 4 days or so. I'm packing EVERYTHING in advance!!! I'm not taking ANY chances. I want him to enjoy his time with G'ma and G'pa not be miserable the whole time. |

My daughter had a low grade fever between 99 and 101 on a regular basis prior to being diagnosed at 16 months.
I remember sharing this info with her Doctor at Childrens Hospital and she contributed it to her low immune system.
She is now 3, gluten-free and the persistent fevers have disappeared.
Hope your child is feeling better!

Thank you everyone for your stories.. I am going to share these with my hubby.
Also, Matthew has an appt with his Ped today. In hopes to gain her support. I'm going to bring up Celiac.
Today he's doing a bit better, but his fever is slowly climbing up again.
Yesterday was pretty hard on the both of us. He reached 102.8
Again thank you for being there.

Hey Al,

Thanks for asking!
Well.. His fever went back up to the high side of 102 today. I took him in to see his doctor, his tonsils are swollen and pussy (sorry... TMI) But he tested neg for the quick strep. Which is Great with his problems with Antibiotics, I don't know what we'd do.
I talked to her about the fevers coming and going for no reason, and explained that it mostly happens after he's had a gluten accident. However, they've never until now have gotten "this" high. therefore, I'm not sure if the gluten is to blame or not. But as I pointed out to his Pediatrician that EVERY time he has gluten by accident or not, he ALWAYS becomes ill in some fashion.
We'll see what the test results bring, we should have them back by Friday, hopefully.
