Feeling a little anxious about visiting Dr. Lewey today. After navigating the waters of GF life for 16 months without having ever seen any dr. besides my GP, I feel it is time to enlist some assistance from a dr. who might know a few things about food intolerances!
I'll be back tonight for my debriefing. Wink

I saw Dr. Lewey yesterday, as I have had recent development of what appear to be intolerances to corn, soy and dairy, in addition to gluten.
Dr. Lewey is an intense individual. He is definitely from the non-traditional side of gastro docs. He talked a lot about the wide range of medical practitioner's opinions of and research into CD and gluten sensitivity, and the best tests to use to find answers to food issues.

I felt that he listened well, trusted that I have a good handle on GF life, and would do everything within his and the insurance company's abilities to get me the answers I need. It's really cool to talk to a medical professional who knows what it's like to be glutened, and gluten-free.

I'm to continue avoiding the foods that bother me and keep a food journal; blood draws and scopes are in my near future. Shocked

Glad that your doctor seems to be understanding. I hope that you get to the bottom of what all else is going on.

If you need some help with the CORN FREE diet, let me know. There is LOTS of HIDDEN corn that isn't even listed on labels.

I have my surgery tomorrow, so I might not respond after tonight for a couple of days. Smile

Thank MrsP. Depending on what happens, and from what I've learned so far I might need a lot of help being GF/DF/CF/SF. Good luck on your surgery too.

A little more from my Dr. Lewey visit: he says he has problems getting labs to do all the tests he wants, and has tried to find ways to take a short route from his office to the labs who know how to do the tests he wants done. He says that the lab work listed below should help us take a shortcut around the elimination diet, and find out what I'm really having trouble with.

I am to have:
Anti-gliadin gA/IgG Elisa
EMA IgA AB
Hu-ETG (anti-human tissue transglutaminase)
Total Serum IgA by Nephlometry
Anti-reticulin IgG/IgA
HLA DQ2
HLA DQ8
HLA-DQB1

Rast IgE and IgG for several foods

as well as:
ASCA IgA Elisa
ASCA IgG Elisa
pANCA IgG Elisa

BONUS : a colonoscopy and endo on the same day. Shocked

Depending on your insurance you might want to make sure they are contacted first about this. I had both procedures done on the same day light years ago when I was diagnosed, the insurance company refused to pay for the second procedure. I tried to explain to the blooming idiots that I was pretty sure they didn't just pull the scope out of one end and immediately stick it in the other but they were bigger than me and I lost the war.

I hope you are able to get the answers you are looking for.

First results: "DQ8 positive - this means you have the white blood cell genetic pattern predisposing you to CD and GI/GS. Elevated IgG antibodies to wheat, oat, rice, and dietary yeast. Avoid these foods".

These are my results from IgG and IgA blood testing, and genetic testing. I have my follow-up appointment in a couple of weeks when I will have biopsy results.

Rice? Yeast? I never would have guessed. I suppose I'll be hitting Google hard tonight.

Interesting...Sorry to hear there's more foods.

Anne @ GFAB has issues with yeast too. She's a good resource.

Thanks for the update!!
