They give you a shot "Lipdurmis' or some name I will get the proper one You use it with the dreaded diet and excercise and it comes off quicker! I dont know all the details yet but they were advertising and my doctors and I was told it woked. I googled it and checked out some forums and they were pretty enthusiastic. It suppresses your appettite too I think. One site said to eat only 500 calories but I wont be doing that That is just dangerous and silly. I would have to enventually eat more than that. Of course it would work if you only eat 500 cals but it wouldnt when you eat normally again |

Hey everyone! My name is Ashley.
I've been wondering ... is there any good diet plan out there that we can use? I've been reading how you guys have been loosing weight with your celiac. It took the doctor's forever to find out what was wrong with me. (over a year) My symptoms seem to be really different from other people I meet.
Anywho... instead of loosing weight I've put on about 25 pounds in a month. I'm afraid if this keeps up I'm going to be extreamly heavy. Instead of feeling better I tend to feel worse. I can't seem to find a diet plan that will work for me that's celiac friendly. Is there a way I can loose weight? Thanks for listening. |

Hey there Ashley! Welcome!
Well, you can certainly eat more fruits, veggies, and lean meats. Those should be OK, though make sure you check with the manufacturer before you buy meat. SlimFast has also released a new shake that's lactose and gluten free.
Have you tried exercising more? What about joining a gym or getting a personal trainer? It can be hard to keep off the weight on a GF diet because so many GF treats are unhealthy. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Hi, Ashley. Several people on the board have mentioned that they have had success with the Weight Watchers core diet - see this link. I don't know much about it, but it is supposed to be quite amenable to the GF diet. I had always been very thin before my diagnosis, but once I went GF, I started to put on weight rapidly. I got pregnant and gained 60 pounds! Holy crap - that's like carrying a second grader around with you all the time. After I had the baby, I got serious about losing the weight. I have had to give up most of the GF breads and cookies. Many of them have a lot of simple carbs and starches. I do still eat bread and cookies occasionally, but not nearlky as often as I used to. It took me 5 months to lose all of the baby weight, and now my weight has drifted down to 5 pounds less that when I got pregnant. I think if I lose 5 more pounds I will be happy.
If you have only recently been diagnosed, it may take a while for your body to normalize. It may have been malnourished for a while, and is trying to rebuild itself. Sometimes this causes a rapid weight gain as your body tries to hold on to every possible calorie.
Thanks for joining the group, and I look forward to seeing more from you! _________________ -Colleen

My experience was exactly as Colleen wrote above. In much less than a years time, I gained 25 pounds which took me from severely and unhealthfully (is that a word?) underweight to a slender, healthy looking person. Once my body was caught up and had all the nutrition it needed the weight gain subsided and it all evened out.
Having said that I probably eat a bit different than most. I don't drink pop or fruit juice, stay away from snacks and other 'junk' food and avoid processed and fast foods. Plus, I don't eat out. Instead of snacking I'll have a sandwich and I do bake quite a bit but I give the majority of it to family and friends(spread the calories!). I don't go without but I make darn sure what I put in my mouth is worth the calories! |

I have found the Atkins diet to be extremely celiac friendly and I have lost 50 pounds in the 10 months that I have been on it. _________________ JAIME
