I havn't been officially diagnosed yet but feel certain with my symptoms and family history Gluten is too blame. I have lost over 50 pounds and I'm malnourished anf trying to get healthy.
I was always a 19 or 12 and now I feel Im wasting away at a 4. Who the heck wears a 4. Certainly not me.
Any advice.

Hi Amazon,

Welcome to the board!! Sorry to hear you're going thru this.

The 1st thing you need to do is get tested. Have you asked your doctor about Celiac Disease? Have you had any other testing done? Please checkout Our Thread on Celiac Blood Work Tests. This lists the complete CD blood work panel and links to other testing info. You need to consuming gluten so it won't skew the test results.

I wish you well in your Knowledge Quest! Please, don't be afraid to ask questions. It's possible you maybe on the right track. Glad you being proactive about your health!

I have been tested blood and biopsy. All negative. If it's not celiacs I wish theyd figure it out before I starve to death. My mother has celiacs and so does a 2nd cousin. Everything fits but no real diagnosis.

You do have the option of Enterolab, if you feel strongly that you want a diagnosis. That is a fecal study, not bloodwork.

If you feel that gluten is really the problem, you can try the GF diet without a diagnosis. But before doing that, I would make sure they ran the proper bloodwork and took enough endoscopy samples. There are also those that have non-celiac gluten sensitivity. We have lots of people like that in our group.

I hope you get a correct diagnosis soon. I have finally stopped losing weight but I still can't gain any weight and it is frustrating. I couldn't believe it last year when I went to buy new jeans and the only thing that fit was size 2.

Just went back onto the forum and saw your post. I was actually already very thin before switching to a gluten free diet. But it was an unhealthy thin, drawn in the face looking, no muscle tone left. Since on the GF diet, I have gained muscle, feel much stronger, look much healthier in the face, but still have not increased in my clothing size. Depending on the brand, buying a size 2 or 0 is pretty frustrating embarrassing. When our 19 year old daughter shops with me and sees the size I need she asks "why are you so skinny, mom?" I hate it, because I don't want to be. However; I should mention I am a runner and log quite a few miles per weeek, then don't know what to eat, especially for protein, which is certainly part of the culprit for my size. Also, my whole family is more on the lean side.
Anyhow, yes , being too skinny is not a lot of fun. I just want a happy medium.
