Hi all -- I am still "basically" gluten-free after figuring out that I am non-celiac gluten intolerant.

Anyway, I have been having twitchy/tingly feelings in my feet and lower legs for a few months now, off and on. I had an EMG today to check for peripheral neuropathy or any muscle/nerve issues and the doc said everything was normal.

So, of course I am still having these feelings in my legs, I have read about Restless Leg Syndrome and it doesn't really fit, it kind of does, but not the "dire need to move your legs" part.

I am wondering if anyone else feels this in their legs when they eat gluten? When I eat gluten, by accident or by me not being careful enough, I get the old big D, but now I am wondering if I am also getting these feelings in my legs because of gluten? Its just a theory at this point, but you all have been so helpful with my D issues, I thought I would throw it out there to see what you think?

You know, it seems like every time I go to the doctor and tell them I am having some wierd symptom, they run tests and nothing ever comes out abnormal. I start feeling like its all in my head, but I know its not, but I can't help but think it.

Anyway, thanks for listening Smile

Paula

I have peripheral neuropathy in my extremities, but I also have muscle twitches.

For the muscle twitches, I have found that taking magnesium powder really helps.

Before I went GF I got the tingling. I haven't had it for awhile despite the occasional gluten "oops". I used to get it down one leg or one arm and sometimes even in my head, which really used to freak me out !

My doc never figured it out either, I just know that now that I am strictly GF, it's gone.

Per-GF I got tingling in arms and legs. Now I get it from glutenings, and had it really bad recently before I cut out a bunch of other foods, including dairy, soy and corn. If you are getting these feelings even when totally GF, there may be other food intols or even something completely different happening. Also It can take quite awhile for the nerves to heal after removing the offending food(s) from your diet.
Do you take B vitamins? B12 helps with PN (peripheral neuropathy) in some people. Liquid or sublingual (under the tongue) B-12 in the form of methylcobalamin is said to work best.

As for docs testing for things and coming up with nothing, this is common to many of us. I have a long list of symptoms that come and go depending on what I am eating or not eating. Lump in the throat, PN, and other annoying and anxiety-producing problems seem to be endemic to those with food issues, and our docs are often not able to explain any of them to our satisfaction. At least, this is what I gather from my own experience, reading the forums and talking with others.

Thank you all for your responses. It seems as though I am not alone in what I am feeling physically, and that makes me feel better Smile

Thanks again!

I have found Vitamin D to be helpful as well. It really helped my hands. I am experimenting with Magnesium Oil as well.

Hope you get better.

Cool
