Costco advice

Wasn't quite sure where to put this...

Our first Costco will be done within the next couple of months. I thought I read somewhere that their GF section is pretty good. However, their website makes them look more like Target (stuff but not food). Do they have GF food? Is the selection good? Is it worth getting a membership? We used to buy stuff at Sams at least twice per month before I went GF.

I admit that it has been a while since we had our membership at Costco. They are a lot like Sam's in that they carry both food and regular merchandise. I don't remember ever seeing a GF section, but at the time, I hadn't yet been diagnosed. When they first opened, they had a "free trial membership deal" of some sort and we joined for the first year. I found that for us, they were similiar enough to Sam's Club and were in a slightly less convenient location that it wasn't worth keeping up both memberships, so I didn't renew Costco. Find out what their introductory offer is and check them out.

We use our costco card a lot. While costco does not have a GF section, they do have a good GF selection. Things I have purchased there in the last few months include (I also included the prices if I could remember them):

yogurt
cheese, shredded and block
lunchmeat
string cheese
sugar
brown rice
jasmine rice
corn tortillas
fresh salmon
Larabars ($17.59 for a case of 18 bars)
Produce - their stock is top notch, but make sure it's something you will eat before it goes bad)
Butter
Egg substitute (the Kirkland brand is GF)
Ground beef (5# leanest ground beef frozen in 1# chubs for $11 something)
Boneless skinless chicken breasts (Kirkland brand for $2.29/lb)
Canned goods like peaches, tomatoes, etc
Kids vitamins (Kirkland brand is marked GF, and much less expensive than the other brands)
Mr. Krispers chips (marked GF on the package)

You still have to do your homework to determine if the price is better than the regular store. Our costco will let you go in and have a look around without a membership. Maybe you could do that to see how it compares to Sam's.

Our Costco also carries Boca Boca granola bars - labelled GF. They remind me a bit of the sesame bars you can buy but they have way more stuff in them - almonds and nuts, etc.

I buy all my vitamins there (Kirkland brand does say GF right on it, not just the kids ones).

Ours has started carrying Rice Works taco type chips, I'd like to see more flavors.

I buy a mondo bag of brown rice that also says gluten free right on it.

Costco is good for non food items too - cool Christmas and other seasonal stuff, outdoor stuff, and some clothing. I love it !

BTW, they usually do let you take a peek without buying a member ship.

LOL, I totally forgot about this thread! Thanks for reminding me.

We ended up checking out Costco last weekend. I'm not sure if we'll get food there, but it seems to be an excellent place for stuff. Most of the food I saw was off limits, which is the same reason we don't go to Sams anymore.

Had to add to this thread - I was in Costco last week and purchased labelled gluten free pepperoni and light ham made by Grimm.
