Multiple Allergies.. not just food

I know our list isn't as long as alot of other peoples, but I find it's an ever growing list. Just yesterday, my daughter was cleaning the rabbits cage, which she has done many times before, however, I just started giving the Rabbit hay... well, Eme broke out with hives shortly after handeling the Hay. So far, here's what my kids are sensitive to... that we know for sure.. I know we're missing much with Matthew, but taking one day at a time.

gluten intolerant
HIGHLY allergic to poison ivy
HIGHLY allergic to mosquitos
allergic to.. chocolate (eczema)
lentils (hives)
Alfalfa (hives)
neosporin (hives)
has extremely sensitive skin, can not tolerate most deoderants, gels, creams, make up exc...

Gluten intolerant/CD un d'x ?
intolerant/allergic to.. all forms of milk
" " .. all forms of corn
sensitive to refined sugar
allergic to.....
feathers
wheat
oak
and many more things we just can't seem to get to the bottom of. We have an upcoming appt with his doc this Thursday.. I think I'll share that on a new OT thread

Awww, don't be too worried. When they tested me for allergies (when I was little) I tested very positive to 98% of them (highly allergic). 20 years and 5 years worth of allergy shots later I'm doing much better. Smile

They might grow out of it.

When I was young it seemed like I was alergic to everything: Milk, Tomatos, Citrus, Butter, Gluten, and Red Die. My mother had to protect me from my well meaning, but indulgent relatives. I have over the past 20 years out grown all my allergys except the gluten one (just like my Mom said I would). So your daughter may, as she gets older, out grow many of those allergy's. For now she has the best medicine in the world, a mother who cares, and watches over her.

While it maybe possible to outgrow allergies, CD can never be outgrown since it's not an allergy. Many times CD is misdiagnosed as a wheat allergy. Patients are told they will out grow it. That maybe true if they truely have a wheat allergy and not CD.

Have you checked to see how many of the allergens are in the same botanical family? I seem to be allergic to almost everything in the Aster family, (among numerous other foods and substances). There's one thing I didn't test positive for in there--lettuce--and it gives me heartburn so I avoid it.

For those that can't have yeast, can you make a starter and make a bread for yourselves that is similar to sourdough bread?

I was reading on the corn free forum that Xanthan and Yeast are both grown on corn, but they 'contain no corn' so they are safe as per the manufactering companies.

My question is could you be corn allergic? I am trying to figure out if these are safe for MrP to consume or if I need to learn another new thing. LOL Making starter would not be from corn, I would just need to see if I could make a bread with it.

With 6 kids, we do a lot with 4H and that includes showing rabbits. My oldest takes care of a dozen. Im allergic to rabbits. Shes got to put on a jacket and take care of them then take it off before coming in the house. We're in Florida. Nothing terrible happens, I just sneeze 20x if its not done! But, Im also really allergic to gluten besides having celiac and when we had a bag in the van I had a bad asthma attack as well as being itchy like crazy. The feed itself contains gluten too. Now, the hay also contains wheat and oat and rye. Our rabbits are kept far from the house so Im not affected on a daily basis at all. Gluten is in most pet foods,even birds. My sons who share a room with the birds do use special soap and gloves, it doesnt bother them though one does have asthma. We've got lots of animals here and just use precautions when necessary. Thats the only way gluten comes in our house is through the pets. Hope this helps as to why the reaction. Its justifiable! Take care. Lynne

Oh my goodness, allergies sure do suck!
I seem to have the opposite to the kids who have been posted about in this topic, when i was little i was fine around cats, dogs, house dust mites, pollen, mould spores, grass, smoke, and really strong smells like deoderant, perfume, onions, garlic etc etc...Only thing i knew i was allergic to then was penicillin and breast milk when i was a baby...
But now at 20, im so sensitive to all of those...
Just last night my dad was baking potatoes with onion and garlic(which im sensitive to when i eat, not sure about allergic) and i walked into the kitchen and broke out in hives, started wheezing and coughing, my eyes puffed up/got red and itchy and my nose started running!

Has anybody here ever tried homeopathy for allergies (not for gluten sensitivity)? I started taking one for dairy allergies but I wonder if anybody has every had a good result or what you think about it?
