|
|
I am about 7 weeks pregnant and morning sickness has started with a vengeance. (Funny thing about "morning" sickness - it lasts ALL DAY LONG!!) Does anyone have any GF morning sickness aids? Even the tea I've been using for light nausea up to this point is making me sick. I've been trying nut thins, but they aren't helping either. Anything anyone can suggest would really help.
Thanks, guys!

Congratulations, Manda!
I got pregnant a few months after I was diagnosed, so I know all about morning sickness and celiac. For me, the trick was to make sure my stomach was never completely empty. I always had something around to nibble on, and ate a little something at least every 2 hours.
I used ener-g crackers, Health valley corn and rice crunchems, GF pretzels, half of a slice of GF bread. A little of these at a time will help. Greasy things will send you right over the edge, so try to stay away from those. Try to drink water slowly, because if you send too much down at one time, it's a certain way to feel like you want to hurl.
It must have been a man that named it morning sickness because it definitely lasts all day. The good news is that once you are out of your first trimester, it pretty much goes away (for me anyway). _________________ -Colleen

My daughter just went through a horrific time with morning sickness -- it lasted until 22 weeks. She lost 27 pounds, had to be hospitalised, and eventually ended up on some anti-nausea drugs that they give to chemo patients, just to try to get her to keep food down. But at about 18 weeks, she found a solution that worked for her -- didn't completely eliminate it, but got rid of 90% of the sickness.
Her solution/advice is . . . those things called Sea Bands? They are something that goes on the wrist, and they press on an area that is supposed to prevent nausea. She said they are really ugly (grey) but she didn't care if she could eat. You can get them anywhere in the US (pharmacies, etc), and they sell them on this side of the pond as well.
She also swears by lollipops, for some reason (says they help her. I think she just likes lollipops).
Best wishes for a happy healthy baby, and less sickness! |

Sea bands really do work. I used them for 2 years during cancer treatment. I found that I could not wear tham all day because thay made my wrists hurt, though. You have to make sure you get them in the right place, but once you do that they really do help with the nausea. _________________ -Colleen

Thanks, guys! I appreciate all of the help! Luckily, my boss and his wife have 9 kids, so he is pretty understanding. I will try eating more small meals. I may try to find the sea bands this weekend. Maybe I'll actually be able to go back to work on Tuesday.

Congratulations Manda! How exciting. I agree with the stomach-never-empty approach, as well as Sea Bands as an aid. _________________ Nance

We're pretty excited. My husband is amazed that I have managed not to tell my family yet. It was hard because I found out I was pregnant the day after my grandmother died (Dec 22nd). I really wanted to give my family some good news, but couldn't. I am planning on telling everyone in March once I've started my 2nd trimester.
Grazing throughout the day seems to help. I now get up and grab some dry cereal to munch on first thing in the am and that seems to help a great deal. I also make sure I have a store of snacks in my purse to make sure my stomach is never totally empty. My husband and I went to see a play in Boston yesterday and I had crackers, cereal, and cukes in my purse. Made it through the whole day without feeling too sick.
Thanks again for all of your help and well wishes!

It is hard to wait to tell people. I waited until I was into my second trimester to tell family too. I even told my friends on this forum before I told my husband.
Glad you are feeling better. _________________ -Colleen

| One of my friends had terrible morning sickness so I researched it and found three things that are supposed to help. More water (dehydration can cause morning sickness) ginger, and B-6. My friend said the B-6 helped the most but she had to take a lot of it. |

Congrats sweetie!
You've gotten great advice here. Another I want to make sure to add is to have your OBGYN check and see if you're getting too many vitamins. Mine were making me even sicker... and it was so not fun!
I had to make sure I was never halfway empty, but always munching something (even just a glutano pretzel).. and I made lots of smoothies with ice, yoghurt and fruit juices.
I was a vegetarian for about 3 1/2 months of my pregnancy as our little one didn't want me to eat meat, the meanie! It took a few tries, but I found if I am not around ANY of the smells that would set off the morning sickness, I did really well. Thankfully the only throwing up I was doing with the morning sickness was related to the sinus infection I had, so once we got that under control, everything else was peachy keen!
Once you hit around the 12 - 15 week mark, you should notice a big change. If you do not, make sure you talk to your doctor about it and explore things such as seabands, or the medication for this. I don't know if it is or is not GF as I had no need of it.
If you're working or going to school/college, take little snacks of fruits and veggies and things you can eat to offset the hunger so you aren't sick so much, and drink lots and lots.
The Dr said no matter how much you're drinking 'now' prior to pregnancy, add about 4 - 6 more glasses of water to that. I drink about a liter to a liter and a half of water every day, and increase that to about 2 liters or so, so I am sure to get enough to drink during the day.
Making slushies and smoothies definitely helps in that department, and esp if you get to the point you don't feel like eating something (I get that way sometimes.. having to talk in class or just having 'over done it', I don't feel like chewing sometimes).
Hope that helps, and congrats!! _________________

I just tried the glutano pretzels and now keep them in my purse at ALL times! It seems to help. I also keep bottled water and dry cereal in there too. (Good thing I bought a BIG purse!!)
I am starting to feel a little better - only mildly nauseous now. We had our first prenatal appointment last week and everything looked good so far. I have my first ultra sound next week. I can't wait!! I am about 10 1/2 weeks now and my husband and I can start to see a little pouch. No one else has noticed yet. I am looking forward to telling everyone in a couple of weeks.
I'm also able to work from home on the days I feel bad in the am (like today), so that is a huge help. Not having to drive the 40 minutes to work really helps my energy level.
Thanks again for all of the advice. Hopefully only another 2 1/2 more weeks to go of the morning sickness!
HadassahSukkot - when are you due?

LOL - I remember that being the first thing I bought when I got pregnant, so I could carry around food and water everywhere. Nothing like what you'll be lugging around in 30 weeks or so (inside and then outside), but good practice nonetheless.
Glad to hear it's going well. Two pregnant forum members - whee! _________________ Nance

How awesome!
I'm due around May 25th, but I have a feeling our little one won't want to appear until closer to June... Just a feeling...
I bring snacks with me when I go to my German integration course.. usually fruit, cookies and now cereal since I have to take the early bus to our other location.. I sure hope they move us back to the other one we were at... then I can have breakfast like a normal person again.. _________________

Keep something in your stomach at all times. It doesn't have to be much, but putting something in there helps with the nausea. Eat whatever sounds good to you at this point and don't worry so much about if it's "healthy". Of course, I don't mean alcohol, or things with caffeine, but if you feel like eating ice cream and it's the only thing you can tolerate, do it.
My good friend is a midwife and she gave me Morning Balm drops from Mountain Meadow Herbs. It is all natural and contains ginger, fennel and peppermint. It is not a tea. It is a tincture. If you are extremely ill, you can just put half a dropper under your tongue and it helps relieve nausea. Or you can add a dropper or two to somw warm water and sip it. That is what I have done and it works well for me, along with keeping something solid in my tummy.
The website for Mountain Meadow is http://www.mountainmeadowherbs.com/
Hope you are feeling better soon! When you hit 10 - 12 weeks, you'll start feeling remarkably better!!! _________________
