This tea is so good on a cold winter day.
Spiced Tea
7 tea bags
1 1/2 c. water
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp. whole cloves
Combine above ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil 30 seconds. Cover and let steep 30 minutes. Remove teabags and cloves after steeping. You can leave the cinnamon stick in if you wish.
Add and stir till dissolved:
1-6 ounce can orange juice concentrate
1/2 c. sugar.
Store covered in a container in refrigerator.
To prepare:
In a mug, use a ratio of 1/3 mix, to 2/3 boiling water. Don't add milk or cream to this. Curl up with a good book or some nice music, and enjoy!

I'm sure most people already know this, but be sure to check your tea for gluten. There are some out there that are not GF (some Celestial seasonings and Tazo varieties spring to mind, but I'm sure there are others). _________________ -Colleen

Yeah... I never in my life thought I'd be reading the ingredients on a box of tea! Just the other day I picked up a box of Constant Comment by Bigelow, read the ingredients, put it down. I think a lot of the herbal type teas may contain barley malt and also natural flavorings that might be suspect in the flavorings, not 100% sure since I don't use a lot of herbal teas.
Also I've heard the possibility raised of wheat starch being used as "glue" for the tea bags. I use Red Rose tea, and the last time I checked it was GF as were most of the other brand-name black teas, if I recall correctly. Still, it's best to check rather than assume. I'll see if I can find the link re. GF teas.
BTW I just use plain black tea in the Spiced tea recipe.
And a question...when posting a recipe here is it necessary to put GF near each ingredient? I just assume that's a given here that people will check the GF status of ingredients. I do try to put the GF when listing an ingredient that has a high possibility of being non-GF, i.e. soy sauce, etc.

I often do, but I don't think everyone does. I am a teeny bit anal retentive at times, though. I just brought it up in this case because I have been researching tea lately, and and have come across some with gluten in them. We do get newbies from time to time, and I think it's great if we can sometimes make a point to mention the unexpected places gluten can be found. _________________ -Colleen

When I gave up coffee last summer (which I have since started drinking again), I was drinking Celestial's green tea. It states gluten-free on the label, but it still did something to my tummy. I am so glad to have coffee back! _________________ Nance

Pretty good! I made some of this today. I thought the warm oj was a tad odd but I drank the whole cup and am planning on having some more - so I guess it's not that odd.  _________________ Cheers!

Now that things have settled down a bit here I'd like to try this recipe out. But the OJ/sugar combo has me thinking this'll be pretty sweet. Is it?

It's a little sweet, yes, but the cinnamon and cloves add a bit of spice to it, and the o.j. is more sour. You could cut down on the sugar, maybe? You can always add extra sugar to your cup if you decide it isn't sweet enough after you adjust it. Better to start with too little than too much.
Personally, I'm not much of a sweets person, but I like this just the way it is. Perhaps because I grew up drinking it! _________________ I have never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks. ~Daniel Boone
