Thanks Melissa!!!
Remember the old joke...Where does an 800 lb gorilla sit? Anywhere he wants to. Walmart IS the 800 lb gorilla. Hopefully this will inspire others to follow their lead. I just hope the 800 lb gorilla doesn't squash the others...if you know what I mean
We talked to the Whole Foods Bakehouse guy (Lee) that started the GF baked goods when were at the GIG confernce in Chicago. Very nice guy!! If you have a Whole Foods with the baked goods - GET THE PIZZA CRUSTS!!! They are great!! _________________ Al

My sister says we probably just got lucky with Walmart and that one of their big monkey monks probably has celiac disease. Only good for us huh! Deb |

Hi all,
There is actually a section in my Whole Foods where someone makes pizzas'. I spoke to him last week & he said they were 'looking into' making gluten free pizza. So my ? is, Where is the pizza dough @ Whole Foods that you're talking about. I'm excited too because @ our 2nd Celiac Group Meeting that we're having Aug. 15th, our guest speaker is going to be a baker from Whole Foods. Cool, huh?

It's not pizza dough that Whole Foods sells, it's pizza shells. They are already cooked. You add your toppings and cook at 350 for 15 minutes. I'm telling you this because they don't put any instructions on the package and I had to email Lee to find out how to cook it! There should be a section in your Whole Foods store where there is a wide selection of breads, cookies, brownies, cakes, pies and the pizza shells. In the stores around here it's hard to find so just ask someone. Then, enjoy! _________________ gf since 3/27/04 |

Thanks Terri, what section are the pizza shells in? Are they frozen? As far as Wal-Mart is concerned, I went there Friday & they looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked if they carried gluten free foods. Are they scattered all through the store? Are they marked? I went up & down the isles & didn't see any. Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

I just got hired on at walmart and will start sometime next week. I will ask one of the managers that works in the food department what that article meant. I will post what I find out as soon as I know.

| WalMart is beginning to label some of their Great Value products as gluten-free. Some I have found are: soy sauce, grated parmesan cheese, mustard, lunchmeat(in plastic containers), canned chicken, gummi worms - that's all I can think of right now. I would imagine it will take some time before the labeled items hit the shelves nationwide. Also, due to suppliers some things might be GF in some areas and not in others - not sure how all that works. I would also guess that most employees and even managers aren't going to have a clue(at least not at my WM). So it's probably up to us to just keep reading those labels. It will say gluten-free somewhere near the ingredients in pretty small print. |

The pizza shells are not frozen at our stores here in Northern Virginia. They are located on the same shelves as the bread, scones, biscuits, pies, breads, cakes and cookies. Now I'm getting HUNGRY! _________________ gf since 3/27/04 |

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to check out my store for the pizza crust. Yesterday I got the same info. about Wal-Mart. No one that worked there knew what I was talking about so I called the corporate office. Now that I'm not too frustrated over the food, I have another frustration. I know I'm eating GF, I've gained 7 lbs. & I have a tad bit more energy, but I still ache really bad. Any thoughts. Thanks,

Achey joints go hand in hand with symptoms of Celiac disease. They should improve the longer you are gluten free. But remember, it can take 2 years before all the symptoms disappear. In the meantime, yoga has been found to be very beneficial for us. Perhaps you could incorporate it into your daily schedule. I absolutely love it. I also do the Nordic Trak and lift weights. All of those help combat the achy joints and my osteoarthritis. Good luck! _________________ gf since 3/27/04 |

Thanks Terri,
Somehow I figured exercise would be involved. I got breast cancer in '02, stopped exercising & haven't gotten back into it yet. I'm sure it'll help with my aches some. Thanks again
