We thought about whizzing up some of the oats in a food processor to make them a bit smaller. _________________ Al

I think that was part of the problem, it did bubble over. I also put the brown sugar and cinnamon in at the beginning, maybe it would be better added after they are cooked. The other problem is its easier to use the micro at work, although I do have a double burner I could pull back out. Maybe I could have oatmeal as a late night snack. UGH!
As for what kind I used to eat it would have been quaker instant I'm sure, its just been so long.
Al, I don't know about the food processor it might work. They also make a kind that looks more like grain than oats, I was going for the authentic thing that day I guess and got the oaty ones. I really haven't missed them, I was a cold cereal kind of girl myself, and wouldn't have tried if not for the cholesterol thing.
Just went back and looked at the apple crisp recipe (apples are another on my top 10 list of things that are good for me) I may try to convert it to something low calorie. Thanks. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88

DH also has problems nuking instant oatmeal. He says it always ends up too gummy. I grew up on "homemade" oatmeal for the most part, so my view might be a bit jaded.
I'd also add the extras (cinnamon and milk) at the very end. The flavors will be a bit more peppy. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Thanks Colleen, this seems to be the solution along with adding the extras once the cooking is done. I'm thinking about trying some fresh apple, I suppose that should go in while cooking. Anyway cooking on the stove takes care of all the gummy, chewy, watery issues. Now if I just liked oatmeal. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |
