Hi Everyone,
I recently posted about a dreadful mistake I made eating at Outback Steakhouse. Well, I have eaten at two places since without a problem! Longhorn steakhouse has a sheet with recommendations for those on a GF diet, as does Chili's. I was so excited. I really thought I was going to be limited to salad at Chili's but was able to get a steak, mashed potatoes and some sort of vegatable. They did bring garlic toast, but it was on a separate plate so that was easily fixed.
I am so excited that more restaurants are getting on the ball with this, and I think that soon eating out will be much easier.

I too also had a terrible experience with Outback Steakhouse this one was located in PA. I would love to know why when I order take out I order ONLY gluten free and they still put roll and butter in the bag??? I had frequented there several times and the servers were extremely unkowledgable about gluten free even though they had a gluten free menu. I was told the cheesecake is gluten free and it is NOT. I also had problems with items on the menu the servers were still unsure....Especially with the salads they brought out croutons!!!! I was like you got to be kidding me. I can get violently ill. I emailed corporate to let them know about the situation and I went into detail about everything and I have yet to recieve a response!!!! What a way to represent your company! |

Normal procedure for them is to contact the restaurant you went to and have the GM contact you. If they have not done so I would contact them again and let them know that you have had no response from the manager.
That being said even with a gluten free menu each restaurant is different and cross contamination is a real problem in some. If you are going to eat there again I would print out the gluten free menu from the web site and take it with me instead of depending on the staff. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |

1. They're usually high school kids being paid minimum wage. Would you give a crap?
2. I'm guessing they're only told "these X items on the menu contain gluten". They probably have no idea what gluten is, only that those items have it. So they wouldn't know the answer to "do croutons contain gluten".
Next time you go and you get shoddy service from the wait staff, ask for a manager. They generally really do know what they're talking about. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

| that is why I tend to go to small, locally owned restaurants (even before my dx, actually) because they do care more and they have more to lose if you have a bad experience. |
