Hello,
My name is Dana. I have recently been diagnosed with CD. I am very new with this and it has been a challenge. I have stayed very positive and I have been on a strict gluten free diet for about 12 weeks since my diagnoses. Here is a little of what I went through. I have always felt sick and had stomach issues on and off since I was little but know one ever thought of it as being anything. About 7 months ago I gave birth to my first baby. I have a son and his name is Luciano.I had a normal delivery no complications. As soon as he was born within a couple of days I became violently ill with vomiting and severe diarrhea. I actually had these symptoms while 4 months pregnant for over 4 1/2 weeks and the Drs did nothing till I went to the hospital and they just gave me fluids Then I was ok the rest of the pregnancy. But after my son was born I was hospitalized for about 3 months on and off over weeks at a time. The diarrhea and vomiting was not stopping. They could not figure out what was wrong with me they checked me for everything I had scans of everything the last resort was the Celiac blood test. It actually was done last October but no one ever informed that it was positive. So I had the internal scope done and it was a definite positive I had Celiac. So after I was diagnosed I started to feel a little better the symptoms cleared up and I have never felt better since being Gluten Free. But my question is has anyone since being diagnosed with CD and is gluten free ever consumed anything maybe by accident with gluten and felt sick and what were your remedies what did you do to feel better? I think I may have consumed some wheat by accident. I feel sick a little and I have had some diarrhea. Not severe like before to go to the ER but what should I expect until it takes its course or is there anything I should do?
Than you so much for your help!!!

Hey Dana! Welcome! I wouldn't feel too bad about accidentally consuming gluten. It's a hard diet to figure out; things like that happen to all of us. However, there's no miracle cure for when it does happen. You might want to check out this thread. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Hi, Dana! Congratulations on your baby! Oh yes, it is very possible to consume gluten by accident. We all have examples we can cite. Just ask Al about his Twizzlers. It happens to the best of us sometimes, no matter how hard we try to avoid it. You will get better and better at reading labels as time goes on. Just call it a learning experience in this process, and use your new knowledge so you don't make the same mistake again.
There is nothing you can do to stop the reaction once it starts. You just have to ride it out. You can maybe try treating the symptoms (ie. Immodium, Tylenol, etc.). My reactions gnerally last about 3 days in a small infraction, and up to 3 weeks in a big one. Thankfully it's been a few years since I had a big one.
I look forward to hearing more from you! _________________ -Colleen
