Sad Ok, I think it got me. I have eaten this product before with no problems but a few days ago I ate some while travelling (with a baked potato, plain) and that night there was that nausea and cramping and then the bathroom trips in the morning. It was bad - it took a couple of days for the cramping to resolve - anytime I ate something (all safe) it would spasm my stomach. I'm pretty sure it was gluten and not some virus because a couple of weeks before a roasted chicken from Extra Foods got me - same reaction.

I'm choked because that Chili was my easy meal when out & about. I would love to hear of others' experiences !

Sorry to hear that Elf! Sad Hope things are better now.

Somewhere I saw that the chili was made from left over burgers [presumably that had been in buns]. If that's true or not I don't know. I just thought I'd pass it on. Maybe it's something you can check on.

Looks like chili will be removed from your list Sad

Here is the thread you are talking about.

Sorry the chili is giving your trouble, Elf. We have eaten it lots of times without reacting, but maybe it was CC like Al mentions above.

For anyone's reference, here are the ingredients:

Quote:
Small Chili
Ground Beef, Chili Base (tomatoes, salt, citric acid, calcium chloride), Chili Seasoning (maltodextrin, tomato powder, salt, modified corn starch, chili powder, sugar, onion powder, spices, dextrose, garlic powder, silicon dioxide, soya oil, xanthan gum, citric acid, autolyzed yeast extract, flavour and artificial flavour, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate), Kidney Beans [kidney beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, natural flavourings, onion, calcium chloride, calcium disodium EDTA (preservative)], Chili Beans (pink beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, natural flavourings, onion, calcium chloride), Vegetable Mix (onion, celery, green pepper).

Hot Chili seasoning
Water, Corn Syrup, Salt, Vinegar, Natural Flavours, Xanthan Gum, Caramel.

Cheddar Cheese, shredded
Milk, Modified Milk Ingredients, Bacterial Culture, Salt, Microbial Enzyme, Colour, Cellulose, Natamycin. May Contain Calcium Chloride. CONTAINS: MILK.

Here's their current GF list for Canada.

Al is right...the chili *is* made from leftover hamburgers (I have a friend who worked there as a teenager, so he saw it first-hand), but I don't believe those burgers ever make it to getting buns on them. Embarassed Ok, that sounded bad, but you know what I mean! Wink
But, I have never had a problem with it, so perhaps it is CC, like Colleen suggested?

I think it may be the dreaded cross contamination. Maybe they used the spoon for chili for something else and got ya that way.

I have a chicken joint down the road that I can eat at. One day I was waiting to pick up an order. It has one of those see into it kitchens. I am watching the guy cut up the cooked chickens for orders. Suddenly he reaches over and grabs a bunch of buns and cuts them on the same board with the same knife as he used for the chicken.

YIKES!!!!!!

Now I have to be all careful and insist on a clean board and what not. You just never know when the process is going to bite you.
