Has anyone suffered from dry mouth and unquenchable thirst

I don't know why I am always so thirsty. I drink water all day long. So much water I get up twice during the night. I know I am not diabetic because my husband is and he tested me. Since my body is starting to heal, will that go away?

Is dry mouth and thirst something new?
How much water do you drink in a day?
Are your eyes or other mucous membranes dry?
Have you had your thyroid checked?
Then there's Diabetes Insipidus.

Have you seen your doc about this?

My mouth has seen an increase in saliva production since I've been GF. Others have noticed this as well.

I had this for about four months during initial complications. I am nearly positive it was due to my elevated liver enzymes. I was tested for diabetes. The thirst was so bad, I never slept, I was drinking constantly, I couldn't talk, I couldn't swallow, it was horrible.
My liver enzymes were nearly 900 (normal is below 40), and as it later turned out, I was in horrible condition, but at the time, I didn't realize it. Once that was in control, the thirst went away.

Either way, despite if it's diabetes, there could be something else and like the others said, go see the doc.

Yes, I suffer with dry mouth. That's what sent me to the Dr. in the first place. I was loosing weight, very hungry, & having severe constipation problems. I just tried to ignore all of this, yet knowing something wasn't right. The terrible thirst was the final straw. The blood test stated I had celiac disease & not diabetes. I also had the biopsy. I still have the thirst. I chew sugarless gum & drink lots of water. I don't know if that will ever go away. I have been gluten free for 1/12 yrs. Hope this helps.

I have the dry mouth. I have been gf about 4 years, but drink water constantly. Can't go to sleep without a fresh big glass next to me, and drink it in the middle of the night.

I have been tested each year for diabetes, but negative. I don't consume any high frutose corn syrup or add sugar or salt to anything. I have low blood pressure. Liver & kidneys are fine.

Now I have had one of my tonsils swell up and had to be drained. (without any cold or infection, weird) They want me to have both my tonsils removed.

I don't know what's up? Scary, they don't seem to either.

Any thoughts.

Have you been tested for diabetes insipidus?
That's different than the regular diabetes test.

There's more than one kind of diabetes, plus tests sometimes need to be done after fasting. Get a doctor to do it!

Just an update for anyone who is curious. I have the dry mouth and drink water all the time. My right tonsil has been swollen for about 4 months now. I've had it drained. Tested for strep by qwick swab and culture, both negative. Did a round on antibotics anyway. No real help.

Now lymp nodes in neck swollen. They are running a cbc (complete blood count) and checking for Epstein-Barr virus (also known, mono). Now the docs are whispering lymphoma?

Let's just say I'm only 35ish. and that just sounds crazy. But I didn't know that Celiac Disease puts you at greater risk for lymphoma.

Everyone, keep tabs on changes in your throat and stay on your diet.

Barbara - Generally the type of lymphoma that we are at higher risk for is intestinal in nature. I'm keeping my fingers crosses that you get good results on your lymphoma screen. Have they checked you for other causes like Lyme diease? There are lots of causes for swolen lymph nodes.

Are you on any new medications? I have recently had 2 added to my 'stew' of capsules and they make my mouth so dry and I drink and drink during the night. I roll over and grab the water bottle.

If you have any changes or unusual symptoms it is best to discuss your concerns with your primary doctor.

I know with inflation and the cost of medications and dr visits, we all try to self diagnose. ( guilty as charged.) We really should get our behinds in to be check with any swollen lymph nodes and changes within our bodies. Our immune systems over react and need to be monitored closely because of the unusual complications we can develope.

If it is Mono, you have my full sympathy! I was in bed with it for 5 months before my body was ever able to even start fighting back. It wiped out my immune system. I had to go for weekly B12 injections and had to take zinc tablets.

It is so NOT FAIR that because we have an autoimmune disease we are so susceptible to so many other illnesses. Additional allergies, cancer, throat problems... When does it end. I would love to know that since I am gf that nothing else can happen to me. But that isn't the case, we have to notice every change to our bodies and be worried about everything we eat, be pin cushions to our doctors. It really sucks! I am trying not to worry about everything in my life so I can reduce my stress level. Gluten and my intestines is one thing I can never stop worrying about, I have to always be thinking about it. the expense... People are laughing at me because I know so much about food these days, I have to read every label that I see. I can but a 5 lb bag of white flour for $2-3. Gluten free flour is $3 or more for 15 oz, not even a lb! How is that fair at all!!!

I'm sorry about venting, I just feel like you guys are the only ones who can understand me. I am so tired of this. I will stay gf because I feel so much better, but I am just so tired.

I am fairly new still and finding new things all the time via this forum. Funny about the dry mouth thing because I've had dry mouth for some time now, wake up in the night thirsty, sometimes coughing uncontrollably. Also, I suffer from oral lichen planus now and again and the doc's say that it is linked to the skin condition, Nodular Prurigo, that they first diagnosed me with before they tested for celiac and found me positive. I also keep getting sore throats and tonsylitis and recently had meds for that and tested positive to strep. All clear at the moment but I too keep wondering how much more. Also have aching bones and lethargy. Do others have these symptoms and are they connected with celiac?

Fifi - I'm not sure I would stress that much about the other autoimmune issues. Simply do what you can: stay GF, eat healthy, get some exercise. There's only so many things you can do to help prevent things like cancer.

As far as expenses go, have you tried mixing up your own GF flour? It's way cheaper than buying pre-mixed flour.

I see so many different mixes in bread recipes. Is there one combination that works as a standard replacement for regular flour. I get worried when the recipes say I need 4 or 5 different flours. I appreciate all your help. I bought a breadmaker on e-bay for $37. so I wouldn't have to buy frozen bread anymore.
