Here are few more things I thought of.....I followed the candida diet twice in my lifetime, for a year apiece, and you would be entirely correct about withdrawal from sugar. I found going GF MUCH easier than cutting out sugar. There was a period of about two weeks when I first started that I swear Satan took over my mind! Shocked The mood swings were horrible, worse than any hormone mood swing I ever had. However, after about 1 month, my body settled down and, to be truthful, I never felt better! If you don't eat simple sugars, you don't get mood swings and the "slumpies" in the late afternoon.

My doctor let me eat 200 grams of carbo's per day as she just said it helps to keep people on the right track with this treatment and I found that 200 grams did not interfere with the candida cleanse. I would suggest to you to eat brown rice or anything else like sweet potatoes or even white potatoes. I know some will argue that they turn to sugar in the gut but my experience was it didn't make my problem get worse at all. My personal opinion on that is if a carb is whole grain, it contains the fiber needed to slow the sugar hit way down. It just is not the same thing as a simple carb. Yes, white potatoes are white and refined but eat the skin and that is fiber. You will have to eat some carbs or after awhile, you will not gain weight and continue to lose. I did so well after 3 months battling the candida that I started losing weight because I wasn't eating enough carbs.
I then introduced more carbs back into my diet to keep the weight on, without going after the simple sugars. I was also put on an anti-fungal to kill off the candida that dumped into my bloodstream, after starving it with diet changes. This does work but be patient. I honestly felt like a new person.

First make sure what you are eating is GF and secondly, no yeast or simple sugars. But make sure you eat SOME carbs or you'll keep losing and that isn't good either. The George Foreman grill is a good way to start too....go and get some good quality beef and make yourself a giant burger! Wink

Will do! I'll let you know how it turns out.

Also, thanks for the info on the carb amounts: I see the nutritionist for the first time tomorrow and will see what she thinks. Up until now, I haven't been given a daily carb regimen...200g sounds like a good starting point though! Very Happy Wink

There may be differing opinions about carbs with some nutritionists but you have to eat some. They are good for mental health and I doubt you would be able to stick to a totally carb free diet anyway. 200 grams worked for me
and I still got rid of the candida problem and all it's nasty symptoms. Personally, I don't think many people really "get" the difference between whole grain carbs and refined carbs. Even Celiacs can find whole grains that are GF and fit the bill for a candida diet. I stayed on one twice for 2 years total and they do work AND make you feel better but you'll have to learn a bit about nutrition......which you will anyway trying to get healthy again. It's worth the effort. Just hang in there for the first 2-3 weeks and it'll get much better, I promise!

Fifi
Bump just means they moved that thread to the top of the stack to make it more accessible for someone who needs the info that's in the thread.

I wondered the same thing for a long while, and was terrified that if someone said "bump for Steph" that it would mean I'd be booted into celiac oblivion. Embarassed Laughing All this internet jargon is new to me too. Probably should start a thread just for what all the bumps, BTW's etc. mean for those of us who are not computer literate yet. I think I've finally got most of it, but it's taken a while. I not only had to learn to eat GF, but also learn a new language!

A few weeks ago TEC told me I might be able to get a certain pasta at whole paycheck, and I actually googled it to see if it was an internet shopping site!!! Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Bump = to make a post in an old thread. This pushes (bumps) the thread back to the top of the forum. Al usually does this with reference threads for new members.

Bump is when you post to a topic just to bring it to the top of the stack again. Sometimes things get lost as the new posts are always on the top of the list.

Wikipedia
Quote:
BUMP is sometimes used as a backronym for "Bring Up My Post/Post count" or as a recursive acronym "Bump Up My Post".

This should be mandatory training before exploring teh intartubes.

This doesn't hurt either.
