Geeze, I just read that link. It just clicked that I had bad teeth when I was young. I was very careful, but to no avail. My adopted sister didn't care about her teeth at all and hardly ever had a cavity. I just thought it was my Irish history (you know, the bad teeth), but now that I have read more about cd, maybe it really was the Irish heritage and an explanation for the notorious bad teeth.

Weird that the tooth problems started when I was young, but then they stopped for about 18-23 years.

I was exactly the opposite. I had absolutely perfect teeth up until I was 20 or 21, and then suddenly 5 cavities popped up. I have no idea if those were from decalcification, but that was the first time they mentioned decalcification and I remember getting special mouthwash to use.
That was around the same time that I found out I was lactose intolerant (which I now know is possibly from the CD), so things are kind of falling into place. I hope that changing my diet will help so that I don't have any future teeth problems. (it's getting expensive because I have good insurance but the nearest endodontist that is in-network is 50 miles away, and I have a $1300 maximum per year also)

I just saw a commercial for the Michigan Dental Association where these two ladies are out running and every time one of them opens their mouth, a siren goes off. They say problems with your teeth and mouth can be early indications of other health problems, so you should see your dentist regularly. They mention big ones like heart disease and diabetes, but I wonder how many dentists know what CD is, and if they would know the warning signs. I'm gonna check out the website they mention to see if it's at all helpful.
