Well, there's a possible new CD adventure in our family. When I was first DX'd, I asked my kids to get tested, but no one did. Now my DD has turned up with a bunch of nutritional malabsorption issues - mostly iron, although she's not anemic in the classic sense - it's more complex than that - something about iron binding capacity and such. It's more confusing too because she's a gastric bypass patient - almost 4 years out from the surgery. She has done wonderfully well. There's 130 pounds less of her and she looks terrific and, until recently, has felt great too. It's been easy to chalk the malabsorption up to her rearranged insides. This week, she was having some gastro issues and the doc (the attending GI specialist) asked her if anything ran in her family that might account for some of these mysteries. She said "well, my mom has celiac." His response was "oh really" and we were off and running with blood work AND biopsies (since she was under for other tests too, he didn't see any sense in waiting for the blood work to come back positive). Now, we wait, but she keeps reminding me that when she was home for two months last summer and pretty much kept GF by default by eating at home, she felt a lot better. So, we'll see.

that certainly is interesting.

I just popped for the same kind of iron problem in my bloodwork last week at my OB checkup, but he didn't say anything until last night's visit. We'll be supplimenting as of tonight.

Well, the tests are back and they're all blissfully normal. No indication of elevated antibodies or villi damage. So we're back to figuring out what's causing the iron deficiency. She may simply have to get the IV iron infusions. They will watch her blood work for a few months and then decide.

Growing babies take a lot out of you - iron, calcium, all that good stuff - make sure you take your supplements.

Well, I've been supplimenting my iron, and now my hemoglobin is showing a more normal level (down from 10,3 to 11,--- something) which is good for both bubs and me. The second round of thyroid tests isn't back yet. My numbers were so weird that the doc said it literally was impossible to have those numbers (normal this, low that and high this) -- so if the levels are similar or the same, I have to go for a thyroid ultrasound to ensure I don't have cancer or something, and then if something does show up and things do not even out after the baby is here in person and not draining as much on me... go see an endocrinologist.

I do have more energy again, which is great.. but the baby is trying to rearrange organs at present instead of "engaging", and other than his growth spurt (which means lots of sleaping for him ), he's been poking me with his sharp finger and toenails... I'll be suprised if we are not clipping nails on day 1... I swear he has the nails of the devil...

My thyroid levels went all out of whack almost the instant I got pregnant. I've been monitoring them with my OB and my Celiac NP. I hope that yours level out once your little guy arrives. You must be so excited! Has he made any indication of when he will arrive? I will be thinking of you and hoping that your labor and delivery go smoothly. You will have to post pictures.
