Good quality pure cheese is the norm. My taste buds won't explode but my insides might if I have to eat processed cheese food like "normal people.*"

IMO "normal people" drive down to their local store and pick up a block of regular cheese. Not "cheese food", but not $22 cheese either.
I'm not saying $22 cheese is bad. If you* have the money, then by all means spend it on whatever you like. I'm saying not having money and then complaining about buying stuff at over-the-top prices is stupid. Save your money and spend it on necessary things: gas, shelter, "normal" food. When times get better then consider migrating back to your foodie ways.

I was raised by a granola crunching mom who insisted that most every morself ingested be healthful and pure [ex. whole wheat germ carob chip cookies lol] and a dad in the restaurant business. Their influence stuck....still don't drink pop, chips, etc. Although I do admit to having an affection for candy. I have been known to eat more than my share of some kind of cheese dip made with rotel tomatoes and ground meat on yearly ski vacations. If I were ever to be invited to have a meal at your house I would eat any processed cheese containing dish you served me with gusto.

I was just thinking...that's scary.
While I might not have any issues spending $22 per pound on some cheese. There's no way I would spend $3 or 4 for a bag of chips, $6 -7 on fast food, $5 on a pckg of premade cookies or $4-5 on a case of pop (how much does pop cost?), etc. So while I choose to indulge in traditionally expensive ways, "normal people" also indulge. |

Me too, especially if it's nacho cheese dip. Mmmm....
I swear, DH could replace his blood with that powdered yellow stuff in the mac n cheese boxes and still be fine.

Luckily the price increases don't seem to have translated to the rice flour market yet. I bought a 50 # bag last week for my normal price of $39.50. The asian market I usually get my other flours at doesn't seem to be having any sales anymore, though. Most of the flours are hovering between $.79 and $.89 for a pound. I used to be able to get it for $.33 a pound sometimes.

I went to my asian food market yesterday. The white rice flour I've been buying for $.99 was now $1.25. All they had was one case of it (24 lbs.), so I bought the whole thing. It seemed like there was a big jump in the jasmine rice, which I always buy. They only had a few bags, so I got a 25 lb. bag. I'm wondering if I pay more than you Colleen because of being on the east coast? More transportation costs?

Not sure. Maybe it is volume? I don't know what the Asian population is in Maine, but here in the PNW it is huge. They can definitely make some money by selling a lot for a lower price.
