What is that term? Is that different from nc gluten sensitivity?

I was a very high positive for the Enterolab test, which determined that I was "gluten sensitive." Fecal Antigliadin IgA 266 (Normal Range <10 Units)

I also did the Celiac Disease Panel blood test, which came back negative on everything and the doc wrote on the bottom "Non Celiac Gluten Allergy. Still Needs to be gluten free."

The blood panel was Tissue Transglut AB IGA; IGA, Serum; Gliandin AB (IGA). All negative.

I have also had a scratch test on my skin for wheat allergy and it was negative or very low.

I don't think the doc testing for gluten and celiac meant that I had a histimen response to gluten by saying that I was "non celiac gluten allergic," but did he mean "gluten sensitive," or did the blood panel rule out the "gluten sensitive" classification?

Thanks.

It's really hard to say what your doc meant by that. It might be interesting to ask him/her Wink I've never seen that exact terminology before.

My guess - is that he meant gluten sensitive - not allergy.

I will say it gets a bit confusing with all the different terminology that's used to describe/classify all the types of gluten sensitivity [sensitivity = gluten affects you]. Often times we get caught up in assigning a name to it all. Bottom line - no matter what it's called - it all comes down to the same thing...removing gluten from your diet.

Yes, asking the doc is a smart idea. I just got these on the side from the nurse, because I was at the office getting a Myers' Cocktail. The doc was in with a patient and I wanted to go home. He did write that he wants me to see the nutritionist, which he said before, but I am waiting because I am spending all my money on tests these past couple of months and Myers' Cocktails.

I also realized that I am getting better questions lined up for her as I wait.

I guess the reason that I was asking was that I wondered if I mistakenly ate gluten, or later when I was less reactive, if I deliberately ate gluten and I was "non celiac gluten allergic," if I took a benedryl or something, would it cancel the reaction out.

I don't think so, and my body doesn't feel like it would help, but I just thought for the sake of a croissant, that I would ask.

Doc did put that term in quotes, so maybe he was acknowledging that it was colloquial and wanting the nutritionist to clarify.

My guess is no. You mentioned that your allergy testing for wheat was negative. If you had a true allergy - then it probably would. In a true food allergy your body puts forth a different type of reaction.

I must say, I don't know a great deal about true allergy testing. Perhaps some of the others that have been thru it might jump in here. I think Nance might be a good one here. Nance, ya out there?? Smile
