Is Psyllium safe to take?

I was wondering if Psyllium that is a fiber is safe? Is it derived from Wheat? The product has 100% pure psyllium husk.

Are there cross contamination issues with Psyllium like there are with Oats?

OK, so I know Metamucil say they are gluten free. However I don't want to pay extra for sugar.

My local natural food store has bulk psyllium from FrontierCOOP.com but they will only read you a statement over the phone which says it's NOT produced in a gluten free facility but they do wet wash the lines between runs and are not certified gluten free. Do all of you think this is OK or not relative to being gluten free???

Hi Bill,

Bulk items are tricky no matter how you slice it. It's an easy place for cross contamination occur. They might use the same scoop in for the GF product as they do for the NGF product. NGF product might fall into the GF products bin.

Buy items from companies that don't produce products in non-dedicated facilities is always a crap shoot. All you can do in cases like that is talk to representatives - ask them questions about their line cleaning policies and decide from there. It's a matter of personal choice and how well you feel they address cross contamination concerns. Yes, there are some people that will only buy products from dedicated GF facilities.
