|
|
Last weekend, my boyfriend bought each of us a bottle of Crush pop. I don't know how prevalent it is in other areas, but I know I've bought it at least in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. I think most people usually drink the orange and grape flavors, but our favorite has always been tropical punch. The bottle says it's made by Mott's LLP in Rye Brook, NY, but there isn't any contact information. The ingredients include natural and artificial flavors, so I know I have to double check for the natural flavors, but I can't find any information about them on the net. Is this the same Mott's company that makes juice and apple sauce and things like that? If so, maybe I can do some more research there, but my initial search didn't come up with anything.
Thanks in advance for any help. |

It appears to be a Cadbury Schweppes product.
Let us know what you find out.
My guess - it's only a guess - it's GF. _________________ Al

Wow, that was a fast response. How did you manage to find it so quickly when I couldn't except that you're an expert? |

| I checked the Cadbury Schweppes website, and I managed to find Orange Crush that's made in Mexico, but the entire website is in Spanish, and it doesn't look like they sell it in the United States from the little Spanish I know. If anyone knows Spanish better than myself, do you get anything out of this site? http://www.cadburymexico.com.mx/hthml-accesible/marcas-orange-crush.asp |

Oh man, it's been forever since Spanish class. Babelfish don't fail me now!

I'm guessing the "concentrated conservative" actually means "concentrated OJ". But you might want to double check that. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

They declare the big 8 as required by law, but it looks like they won't disclose anything else. You can try contacting them to see what info you can weasel out of them.
From the US Cadbury Scheppes website:
| Quote: | Q: How can I find out about the ingredients of your products?
A: All ingredients are listed on the label in order of decreasing amount by weight. CSAB products contain natural and/or artificial flavors. All ingredients are FDA approved. All our products are produced in compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations. Any ingredient that is not listed on the can or bottle is considered proprietary to CSAB. If you have a concern regarding the intake of the product, we suggest you contact your physician. |
It's most likely GF, though. _________________ -Colleen

Sorry, I just find it funny that they would refer me to my physican. How is he going to know what they mean by natural flavors? I suppose if they're required to list the top 8, and it says it's manufactured in the United States (the label says new york), I'll agree and assume that it is safe.
Can I ask what pops/sodas do have gluten in them? I haven't found any yet, so are there any? |

Yeah - I love this one too. I want to know how my physician is supposed to know what the proprietary ingredients are. Do they think they hand out swamee hats with the medical degrees?! That physicians are like the Amazing Kreskin??
I know it's just a CYA statement, but it really BUGS me.

I absolutely understand ingredient lists being proprietary information, but from my point of view, they can either tell me if it contains something I can't have or I just won't purchase their product. They don't need to tell me if the gluten is from wheat, barley, or rye, I just need to know if something I can't have is there. Unfortunately, they don't seem like the easiest company to contact, so maybe I'll just stop purchasing their product anyway.
It's so frustrating to me (and I'm sure everyone here) to see so few companies that will even recognize that we have a need and that there is such a market for gluten-free items. Then there are the companies that won't even be helpful in whether or not something is safe. I don't know how many celiac groups there are that are incredibly vocal to companies, but maybe we need to try to get the word out more.
I'd hate to see a lot of people get diagnosed, but knowing how it changed my life for the better in how I feel, I think it would be a good thing. I know I'm going completely off topic, but maybe pushing medical schools to know more about celiac and teach it would help too. I first heard about it on one of those news shows like 60 minutes or Dateline (I can't remember at this point). They were saying how most doctors have never heard of it or never test for it, and the majority of people are mis-diagnosed. I was watching it, and had an "aha moment," yet I still didn't realize the severity of it, and I went over a year before getting tested. Unfortunately, the more people diagnosed with it who follow the diet, the more options we will have. |

Ah, but this works to your advantage. Call the company and ask for a manager. If they can't give you a straight answer (for whatever reason) tell them you're sorry to hear that. Then tell them you'll want your friends with CD to be safe, so you're going to broadcast this information on a very popular CD board. | I second that! At the end of the day, we aren't going to buy products that we don't know are safe. As a community, we are able to let others know about products we can trust and those that we dont'. ONe day soon hopefully the companies will realize that it doesn't make good business sense to withhold ingredient information. |
