Iam currently in the process of being tested for Celiac, Thyroid conditions and food allergies.
I suffer from fatigue, headaches (daily), constipation (with the odd day of diarrhea), bloating, cramping, lower back pain, achy joints, mood swings, anxiety, irritability and bouts of depression.
Im just wondering though, whether its normal for celiac symptoms to come and go? I seem to be ok for a week or so (when I say 'ok' i mean emotionally ok - I still get constipation and abdominal problems) then the next week i'll be terrrible - the stomach problems get worse and im hit suddenly by anxiety and depression.
Is it normal for symptoms to fluctate like this? Do/did yours?
Cant wait to get my test results back! I hope it's celiac! Im sick of being told I have IBS and need to eat more fibre! It doesnt help!
Thanks guys,

There could be lots of reasons why your symptoms come and go. I would suggest starting a food journal. Mark down what you ate, what time you ate, how you felt afterwards, etc. Maybe you can find a pattern. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Yeah, I suppose there could be a lot of reasons.
I tried keeping a food journal - for 5 weeks! I wrote down everything from what I ate to how I felt physically and emotionally to what medication I was on and how much exersice I was doing. I couldnt find a pattern! Owell.
I suppose I'll just have to wait till the test results come back!
Thanks for your post! _________________ There's no knowing where we're rowing or which way the river's flowing. |

My symptoms would come and go initially. it used to frustrate my wife to no end when I told her I suspected gluten. One day I could eat chicken noodle soup without problems - the next time - I'd feel like garbage.
My wife's SIL is going thru this right now. She's supposed to be doing a 2 week WF trial. One night last week she "fell off the wagon" [ate a boat load of wheat/gluten] and had no ill effects. She asked why too. I don't have answer. However overall, she's noticing huge differences in her health. Wednesday she'll have made it thru her 2 weeks. It'll be real interesting to see how she feels when she goes back on wheat/gluten full time. _________________ Al

My symptoms came and went for at least a year, and probably more like 10 years, before I cut out gluten. Stress brought them on, as well as overindulgence in gluteny things. Glad I figured that one out! _________________ Nance

I was in my late teens when I realized that bread made me feel bad. I avoided it for a long time. Then milk bothered me. I would be bent over double after drinking a glass. After several years neither gave me noticeable symptoms. I thought I was cured of whatever had been ailing me. Then everything started up again about 6 years ago. At that time, I had injured my back badly. That time was so stressful for me that I really couldn't be bothered trying to figure out what was making me so sick diet-wise. Looking back, my guess is that the injury triggered the CD.
Also only certain foods triggered symptoms. White bread made me feel sick, whole wheat didn't. Dairy and wheat in combination made me sick, i.e. pizza. Now, I'm only talking symptoms here. Any wheat was probably doing damage. Because I couldn't target all wheat as the culprit, I figured it was something else, like too much refined carbs, etc. It didn't make sense that wheat could be the cause, if whole wheat didn't bother me. Pancakes made me really ill, so I figured the sugar in the syrup was the problem. It was really hard to make sense of it all. _________________ Steph |

Yeah, thats kind of what im like - Sometimes I can have a sandwich and I'll be ok, other days the sandwich will make me feel terribile! The only constants are my daily headaches, constipation and fatigue.
I finally got an appointment with a gastro specialist - pity I have to wait 2.5 months! Im hoping I get all the answers I need from the blood tests I did yesterday!
Thanks for responding, its interesting to know who gets what symptoms and that im not alone with this!
Does anybody have thyroid problems aswell? I was diagnosed with over-active thyroid at christmas have have been tested for it again. Ive heard tyroid problems and celiac are linked....I have symptoms for both so im not sure what my problem is! *sigh*
