Have any of you tried the Mint Crisp M&M's that are out as a promotion for the new Indiana Jones Movie? These are not the same as the crispy M&M's in the blue bag that had barley malt in them. I felt safe eating them because M&M's has good labeling practices, and the label did not contain any gluten ingredients. Something in this product does not agree with me. My only intolerance is gluten, and the reaction I am having to them closely mirrors my gluten reaction (timing, duration and symptoms). I have tested them several times over the last few days, and feel confident that I do not have a stomach bug or another issuse.

I would appreciate hearing any responses on your experience with this product. I'm not saying there is gluten in them necessarily, but they seem not to be OK for me for whatever reason.

What makes them crispy? This was all I could find about them (besides the Mars allergy statement).

They have a rice flour center. I called the M&M customer care line, and they have a voice prompt menu to get to a GF product list. They say that all M&M products including the Mint Crisp M&M's are GF. My body says otherwise, so I'm not eating them again. My son had problems with them too. I still can't wait until the new movie comes out, though. Very Happy

Huh, that's strange. What'd they say about their CC practices? Perhaps these are made on the same line as other NGF candy?

I'm excited too. I'm hoping to drag DH with me. Any suggestions for lugging a non Indiana Jones fan to the movies?

Damn Nazis! Get off my lawn!

IS there such a thing?!?! Isn't that blasphemy?? Wink

Sorry that you're having problems with the M&M's Colleen. I just looked on the Mars site to see if the parent company had ingredient info/GF list, but no luck. Maybe it is CC like Os suggested.

I wondered what made them crispy as well, and all the info I found from Google indicated it was a crispy rice (not rice flour) centre. Crispy Rice=malted barley.

What does it look like if you dissect it?

It's not a piece of rice. It's a puffy center, flaky - Hard to describe. There is no barley malt listed. Here are the ingrediets off the package:

Quote:
Semisweet chocolate (chocolate, sugar, milkfat, skim milk, cocoa butter, lactose, PGPR, soy lecithin, artificial flavoring, salt), sugar, rice flour, less than 2% - cornstarch, corn syrup, coloring (includes yellow 5 lake, blue 1 lake, red 40, blue 1, yellow 6, yellow 5, yellow 6 lake, red 40 lake, blue 2 lake, blue 2)dextrin, natural flavor, salt dextrose, calcium carbonate, gum acacia.

I'm happy not eating them anymore. They definitey do not agree with me for whatever reason.

Crispy Rice=malted barley

I got some carmelized puffed rice that I am making chocolate for the next celiac meeting. The Carma company was very good and sent me a very detailed list of the products make-up. Crispy rice doesn't not have to have malt in them just like Chex changed their repice Rice Chex.

You're right. Crisp rice doesn't have to have malt it. I've just never encountered any mainstream crispy rice without it. Only the specifically labelled GF products. We don't have Rice Chex in the great white north.

Linda,

The Gluten Free Chex came out about a month ago. The only place I found them was the commisary on base. It's kind of funny is away, I know I was allergic to milk from some of the tests I went though, but never seemed to have any symptoms. When I got the Chex, I started feeling very burnt out. I thought it was some heart problems my Dr started testing for. Sunday afternoon I tought, maybe it's the milk I've been having with the cereal. Monday I had so much more energy.
