I cannot seem to control my waistline.

GF for 18 months, very strict, no cheating. I am very informed and have no gluten in the house.

Every day my waistline increases 3-4 inches by the end of the evening.

I work out 5 days a week and have consulted a personal trainer.

Anybody else have this problem? My self esteem is in the toilet and can't find that magic combination to get my waistline back. I am an active 33Y female.

Suggestions or stories?

Hi. I had the same problem, and proved that of course, too many calories going in than we put out, means more weight. I kept a food diary of my daily intake for a week, reset my caloriie limit and lost 30 pounds in 8 months.
Due to arthritis, I'm not very active, so it's extra difficult. It's no fun, and keeping to a balanced diet takes time and planning. Gluten-free foods contain more carbs and they have to be limited (breads, cakes, crackers, etc.). There's no point trying to fool ourselves -- the only way is to eat a lower calorie, well-balanced diet. Once in the habit of doing so, it's easier to maintain the practice.
Good luck!
Pat

glutengirl, Have you checked your thyroid?
Alot of people with hypothyroid tend to hold that extra weight, and especially "the waistline"
I myself have a hypothyroid and my doctor has put me on Armour for the past 3 months

Like tropical mentioned, try to keep a daily log of what you eat..
if you need any help, suggestions with weight loss, maintaince meal plan. please don't hesitate to PM me Smile

I wish I could give you some good advice! I'm completely oppisite though. I kept gaining weight before my dx and since switching my diet I've lost quite a bit. (coulda been due to the fact that I used to be a carb freak and I'm on a fairly low carb diet now since going gluten free).
But if you're not sure whats going on go talk to your doctor, and I second checking out your thyroid.
Hope things work out for you soon!

Hi Gluten Girl,

Boy, I really don't have much either Sad Sorry! I wonder if there are other food issues at play? Like dairy or maybe corn.

Do you have any other symptoms other than bloating and weight gain? Yup - I think a trip back to the doc would be on my list of things to do.

I wish you well! Please let us know how you are doing!

gluten girl u can get ur thyroids checked it might be that I have thyriod problems too. or u might have narrowing of the esophagus. I have that & it all depends on what I eat that day that I still look like I 6 months pregnant with twins. the only way u can get the esophagus checked is to do a swallow test do that is that u have to eat & drink barrium while they do a cat scan or x-rays what ever they order.
hope u get the answers u r loking for

Thanks all for your replies. My doctor seems pretty stuck on this one. It's pure bloating, not weight gain. By the morning the waistline is down to normal.

I will discuss thyroid and swallow study to see if it is one of those.

Anyone else tired of being tested like a guinea pig?

Thanks again.
