Hello!

I was dx with Celiac about two years ago. I was just wondering if others have bathroom problems/stomach issues in the mornings. I feel like I can not go anywhere until around 10am when my stomach has calmed down. I usually spend most of the morning in the bathroom. I have been told for many years that it is just nervous but I really have nothing to be nervous about. Does anyone have this same problem??

Also, sometimes I just want to cry. I get very upset as it is so hard to eat out. I am always nervous to eat so I rather just eat at home. I could just ask for lettuce and i would still be nervous to eat. When I go on vacation I usually starve myself as I am afraid that if I get sick I will not be able to find a bathroom. Does anyone else feel this way?? Sometimes I just wish I could eat anything and everything I wanted to without having to worry where the bathroom is every where I go. Please let me know if anyone else feels this way or if you have some advice for me. I just want to feel better soon!!! Smile

Thanks!! Very Happy

Hi, peep21883. I'm glad you have joined us. I'm sorry you are still having difficulty. Have you had your repeat bloodwork done? Are you sure you are not getting any gluten? It is possible that there is still gluten in your diet. Have you explored the possibilities of other food intolerances? Dairy, soy and corm are some of the biggies, but it can be myriad things. If your diet is completely GF, most of your GI problems from celiac should resolve. If you are not getting any gluten, there may be something else afoot. Have you returned to your doctor for advice?

I think you are very right to be concerned about eating out. We do it very rarely in our family because the risk is just too great. When there is so much going on behind the scenes in the kitchen, it it so easy for our food to be contaminated. Why are you starving yourself on vacation? That doesn't sound like much fun. Have you considered bringing food along with you? Single serving packages are available from places line mininus.biz. TEC started a great thread about packing food for a trip. There's no reason for you to go hungry when you can just bring your own food. It might help with some of your anxiety.

Some celiacs do experience lactose intolerance, especially if our villi are still flat. The way my GI explained it to me is that the villi are involved in the body's production of lactase, and that *some* of us (myself included) recover when we heal up a bit.
