Holy crap it's August!!
Whew, it's been a mad house around home.
We've been trying to get things off the ground for the support group.
Dealing with Peg's car accident and all the insurance/auto repair/auto shopping stuff. Don't worry, Peg's OK! Her car..not so much
Now the TV thing. We were supposed to drive cars last night, but Peg had to whip up some GF Fudge Puddles for the show tomorrow.
I've also been in contact with a person about starting up a community theater group. Note to self: reply to that email...
So, what's new elsewhere? We've been getting several new members, maybe they'll stop by and say Hi
Gotta go...
For those of you just tuning in, Check-In is a chance to introduce yourself, let everyone know how you're doing, what you're up to, to touch base...something, anything, just let us know you're still around
The Check-In Time Tunnel
Here's what we were doing last August. _________________ Al

Peg was in a car accident?! What happened? Well I'm glad she's doing OK! You can replace the car, but you can't replace Peg.
Gotta love Nebraska in August. +100 degrees with 100% humidity = the suck. I swear I lost 10 pounds of water weight just moving the sprinklers around yesterday.
I guess the biggest thing happening this month is my little nephew turning 1. Is it normal for over 30 people to come to a first birthday party? Hopefully he enjoys the sandbox we got him. The little guy's doing great! He started taking his first steps a few days ago, and he started saying "mama" and "dada".
DH has also officially moved into the wonderful world of counseling. It's frustrating and rewarding, though recently more frustrating than rewarding. Hopefully the bumps will even out over time.
Nothing new to report, GF-wise, though I would kill for some GF Thin Mints.

the answer to that is probably yes Honestly, the 1st birthday is truly had JUST for the parents. We had so many family and friends coming to my daughters 1st party that we had it at a shelter in a local park! There were WAY too many people/kids, like she would ever remember! But hey, it was fun!
My name is Monica, I am not really new, I have visited often, but lately, I come here more than ever! LUCKY YOU ALL! I am 37 (soon to be 38 ) and have 2 young children. My son, Tristan will be 10 in December and my daughter Haven will be 7 in October. School starts here soon and I AM READY. Schedules during summer just drive me INSANE. At least during school, during the day, you know where they are and where they have to be.
I have been GF for 2 1/2 years. My GI dr, due to no damage to my villa would tell you all I am insane to think I am gluten intolerant, but I know different. My blood results showed something and GF diet, IMHO tells it all!
I am a full time working Mom and my husband I work for the same company. I am the accountant/operations manager and he is the dispatcher/safety person.
That's us! Thanks for all the interesting post to read. Nice to know we are not alone.
Hope PEG doesn't feel the neck/ache effects of the car accident.
OS I should add, I am in Kansas and the temp with humidity is about to KILL me! I am so ready for FALL, bring it on.

Things have hit a lul while we wait for our little one to arrive. He's due August 25th, but I have a feeling he is going to arrive sooner than that. Everyone says that the first child is always late, but I know a few people who've had their first early.
We've gotten pretty much settled into the new house - including getting the baby's room ready.
I am working as much as I can - luckily I can work from home as I need to. the past few weeks I've only made it into the office 2 days a week.
Once the baby arrives, I am sure things will be very hectic. I will try to log on to at least do a quick post. But, if I drop off for a while, you'll know why.

Al- Glad to hear Peg's OK. Sorry about the car. At least a wrecked car is just a headache, a wrecked Peg would be a heart ache. Good luck on the TV appearance tomorrow! Pretty soon we'll be calling you two Mr. and Mrs. Hollywood! OK...I know it's a stretch.
Manda- Good luck! We'll be waiting for pics!
Monica- So glad you've joined the conversations of late. You are a lovely addition to our board!
Everyone else... Hope you all are enjoying your summer! Colleen, hope Sean's camp experience is (or is it "was") great! _________________ Steph |

| Hi all! Im new here. I was dx about 2 weeks ago, after about 8 months of flu like symptoms. My GI new something was wrong, but I never had any weight loss, so he thought it was more like bile overload. My blood work was inconclusive, but after my scope it found moderate villi damage. It has been great to find a place where people are going through the same things. |

Hi everyone...
My dad ended up coming up to visit and we got a bunch done on our home remodel. He seems to be doing better a little bit at a time, but he's still adjusting to being on his own.
DH and I have been married 11 years this month.
I'm still waffling on school stuff (MD vs PA program, etc.) and getting ready to take some prep classes in the fall regardless.
Glad to hear Peg is OK - as many have said, the *car* can be replaced.
Also, summer's a great time to be GF - with all the great foods in season around here, I've been enjoying being GF on fresh veggies, pure local meats and cheeses, etc.
Have a great August, all! |

Oh, my aching eyes! Os, can you really read stuff that small?!!!
We are on the last legs of the pregnancy. I'm at 35 weeks and my OB says we will deliver at 37 - 38 weeks if I last that long because of pregnancy-induced hypertension. About 10 days ago I developed the symptoms of a herniated disk. I can barely walk, sit, stand, lay down because of the pain. We are hoping it is because the baby moved lower and is pressing on nerves, creating the symptoms of the herniated disk, but we won't know until I deliver. In the meantime I am living in a haze of pain with no option of pain meds. Good thing the pregnancy is at the tail end! Last time I herniated 2 disks I was unable to walk for 3 months and went thru some intense physical therapy. (It was due to a car accident, which I initially walked away from. Al, if Peg has any aches or pains, please make sure she gets checked! My husband kept telling me to go back to the doctor, but I didn't want to be a "complainer". It wasn't until I woke up and could no longer walk that I realized the worsening pain should have been my red flag!!! I suppose I'm a bit stubborn!)
Anyway, aside from growing the baby, I'm working on lesson plans for the fall. Bummer to realize that school starts in a month!!!
Stay cool everyone! |

Wow, time is flying. August for me is going to be incredibly rough. I will be thrilled when early September arrives. Mostly it is just lots of work...and study...and less time to do anything fun and to plan my GF meals. As a result I guess I get into kind of a rut with meals. Hopefully when things settle a little I can be a little more creative. In my "off" time I am knitting a baby blanket for a close friend which looks good so far. I recently moved, and adore my new place which is great. Finally having my own washer/dryer is such a great convenience!
GF polarbear- i had similar school decision issues and opted for the former- feel free to pm me if you want to bounce anything off of someone else who has been there. It's a tough decision. _________________ Rachel |

I guess this is a good opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Sue and I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I am a teacher in a local high school where I work with students with special needs and learning disabilities. I am also engaged to be married in September 2009. We do not have children yet, but we do have three lovely furry babies (our three kitties).
I am new to the forum and new to the gluten free lifestyle. It all started last year after I had my gallbladder taken out (my gallbladder was totally blocked as well as many of my bile ducts). I am presently trying to get appointments with GI's and get a proper diagnosis and I have also ordered the test from Dr. Fine's lab.
Recently I was poisoned by CC and have been sick, sick, sick for the past two weeks.
I am so grateful to be able to read all of the posts as I finally have some relief that I am not alone. I am NOT crazy. _________________ Sue

I thought it was about time i did my first check in, seeing as i've been here quite a few months now!
Finally things have settled down for me food wise, slowly but surely being able to add new things in. Currently i'm free of yeast/fermented food, gluten, corn, onion, garlic, egg, dairy and probably a few others i cant remember! Its so great to be free of unbearable stomach pains, it just means i have spend a lot more time in the kitchen while being creative with recipes.
I was planning to go back to latin dancing and start kung fu classes, but i found out i now have exercise/cold air induced asthma, and because it's the middle of winter here i'm kinda stuck inside with the heater on most of the time! Combined with anxiety problems, all my specialists have suggested I start yoga.
I've also finally started driving lessons. Just the other day I managed to (successfully!) reverse park on a main road! Hopefully going for my P plates soon too!
I had to drop out of tafe though because of my migraines and worsening vision, which is a bit of a bummer because i got distinctions for all the assignments i had done!. Seeing the neurologist in september though and see what they say.
Apart from that, not much at all has been happening in the world of Kara! |

Congrats. My hubby and I celebrated 11 years back in April!
Welcome imisspizza! I hope we can show you that there aren't many foods that can't be easily made Gluten Free (ok maybe not so easily, but well worth the time)
Isto, when I was pregnant with my first, he laid directly on a nerve and pinched it horribly bad for the last 6 weeks. I hope for your sake it is just a pinched nerve because for me, delivering the baby took care of all the pain and issues!
Welcome SUE!
Bassiskara, Yoga is a wonderful exercise to help calm your body/nerves. My son does children's yoga to help him with his stresses (he is 9) |

Got my oldest daughter off to a week of summer camp yesterday, and Sean goes off to celiac camp next week. I have been having anxiety over how the food is handled at camp, so I called Camp Fire to ask how it works. The celiac kids are mixed in with other campers. GF food is prepared by a dedicated staff in a separate part of the kitchen. When it comes to meal time, the non-celiac kids go to one window for pickup, and the celiac kids go to another. Then they all eat together. I really hope Sean gets to meet another child with celiac while he is at camp. He feels a little isolated sometimes.
Sarah had her 2 year old checkup last week. She is back on the growth chart, but remains small for her age. She is 25 pounds, but growing. I am wrestling with whether or not to have her celiac testing done again. I said I was going to do it at age 2, but now I am not relishing the thought of a needle stick. Every time she goes to the doctors office she gets a shot or something else nasty, so she is starting to have a negative association with the place. I think I am going to wait for a while.
The 2008 GIG conference is in Seattle. I am almost as excited as I was the last time the Ramones came to town. I requested to be a part of the planning committee. The first conference call is tonight, so I will attend to see if being part of the planning committe is something I really want to do. We are supposed to come prepared with ideas for subjects and speakers, so if you have any ideas, let me know.
I have the first series of the TV show "Lost" out of the library. Have never seen the show, but my parents are head over heels for it. I think I am well on my way to becoming a liiiitle bit obsessed with it. I haven't watched anything in months that doesn't have some sort of dancing animal or cartoons in it. I watched 13 episodes of Lost this weekend. I got absolutely nothing done in the house. _________________ -Colleen

DH and I just finished Season 2 last night and bought Season 3 yesterday. I know exactly what you mean. |
