I have a grade eight middle school core class and teach in Canada. I have been having troubles with gluten since my gallbladder removal last October.
This year I decided to just explain it to the kids to avoid problems, especially hurting a student's feelings when they offer me something or having them cause CC by accident.
I had a long talk with them on Tuesday about allergies and then they wanted to know all about my symptoms, how I handle it, etc... it was a wonderful and productive discussion. The kids have been great all week and are genuinely curious, they keep checking out what I am eating and asking questions.
I am so happy I just explained it to them and they reacted so wonderfully. I wish adults were as understanding and naturally inquisitive (which leads to discussions and more awareness). _________________ Sue

That's great to hear! I don't remember any of my teachers "coming out" about something like that. I'd be curious too. I'm glad you decided to talk to them. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Well done Sue!! What a great way to "Spread the word".
I find that most people are curious about the GF lifestyle, what we eat, what we do in certain situations. Often times they will start reading labels and looking for GF foods - then tell you about them. _________________ Al

I venture a guess that this information will be quite useful to these kids, as food intols/allergies are on the rise. They are more than likely to encounter this in their lives at some point (look, they already have!).
Good job! Hope you can stay healthier because you now have these informed kids on your side. _________________ Nance
