Torrey sent me this link over the weekend. This lady's trying to create a crock pot recipe for every day of the year. And they're all GF! Torrey said the best part is she tells you which recipes work and don't work. I haven't gone through all of them yet, but what I did see looks really good. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Bumping this back up! According to her FAQ she'll have a book of 365 GF crockpot recipes in late 2009. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

| I have made the Slow Cooker Indian Curry recipe from this site a few times and it's now one of my favorite recipes. I was sad to see the year come to an end, but I'm looking forward to the book! |

DH and I have come to rely upon her "chicken in a crock pot" recipes. We've had great luck with her bacon-wrapped Cornish game hens ... as long as we remember to put them breast side down. I'm looking forward to trying her whole chicken recipe. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Just a general crock-pot question. I'm debating buying a crock-pot but I'm not sure I would use it enough. I feel like I would need to do a bunch of prep in the morning before leaving for work- and that time is limited. But I would love to have dinner done when I got home. So I'm curious what people do- do you do the prep stuff the night before and then just drop it in there? Thanks. _________________ Rachel |

I prep as much as humanly possible the night before so I can just throw everything in in the morning. I usually get myself up a bit earlier than usual, but it is well worth it to not have to make dinner when I get home. Plus, it's just me here, so then I have a decent amount of leftovers for the upcoming week. |

me too- that's why I was thinking about it. It's nice to make a bunch of meals at once. _________________ Rachel |

It depends on the recipe. If you're making something like lasagna, then it's best to do as much as possible the night before. The chickens I linked to take about 5-10 minutes to prep, so they can easily be done in the morning.
Stephanie's really good about indicating what she did and when.
I'm thinking about picking up a 4 quart crock pot. We really don't have anything for dips and smaller meals. Protip: crock pots work best when they're mostly (2/3-ish) full. If they're less than half full you stand a good chance of your meal burning. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

| Another thing I do is get up early on my day off, and then just go back to bed once it's started. It's very common to find something in the crockpot on Sundays. It works especially well if it's a new recipe because I had one crock pot meal ruined by time I got home from work because it apparently cooked too long. |

I'm lucky because I come home for lunch and if I'm making a slow-cooker meal I start it then. But in my prior job, I would do most of the prep the night before. If I was making beef stew, I would cut up the vegetables and put them in the fridge in one container and have the meat ready to go. I'd put all the seasonings in the slow cooker so in the morning I could just dump everything in.
I also love using my slow cooker on weekends. It's like getting the whole day free since I don't have to stop later in the day to make dinner. |

I can never get things to work out well on w sloww cooker, unless it is my smoker outside.
I looked through the link and bookmarked it, there are some great sounding things one there GF or not. I will definately be trying some of them, those bacon wrapped cornish hens will be the first on the list.
thanks |
