I was diagnosed with CD in March 2004. I suffer from vitamin deficiency, not GI promblems. I have issues with hair loss, bone loss, enemia, and dental problems. I have not eaten any wheat (that I am aware of), since I was diagnosed. I am frustrated because my symptoms have not improved. Because I do not become ill after eating gluten or wheat, I do not know if I am ingesting them without my knowledge.

Does anyone else have these same issues? Have you seen any improvement? Over what period of time?

Thank you for anything you can share with me.

Hi A SYM,

Glad you found us - Welcome!

You are not alone in your "atypical symptom". Usually around 50% of the diagnosed celiacs DO NOT have gastro issues! Yup - it sound like you fit in one of the 4 Types of Celiac.

I have a friend that is a Silent Celiac.

Are you taking any vit. supps? B6 & B12 should be tops on your list! I believe hairloss can also be a B12 issue, enemia too. I found a site that gives some decent background vitamin info & CD (they sell vitamins - but I'm not posting it for that reason). http://www.nutrasanus.com/celiac-disease.html

Do you go for regular followups? What about additional blood work/biopsies to check the progress?

Have you check EVERYTHING you come in contact with? Meds, shampo, soaps, cooking utensils, pots/pans? All can be sources of obtaining gluten.

Sorry to hear you are not getting better. Everybody is different when it comes to healing. Some reports I've seen say it can take 2 years!!

Hang in there! Poke around here, I think you'll find some info that might help you!

Take care

Gluten hides!!! you really have to educate yourself and it is tough. Watchout for carmel color, hydrolized veg and soy protien ( hvp & hsp), and malt flavoring. Those are the most common ingredient I find to stop me from buying products. While we don't have issues with contact contamination ( soaps or external products) it is a serious threat to many.
