Our group has been pretty small for the last year or so (maybe 6 people at the most). I have been bemoaning the fact that we needed to recruit more people. In November, we became a partner of GIG and got listed on their website. And earlier in the month, our group got a mention in the newsletter for the HFS where we hold our meetings. Well, we had about a dozen new people last night! I was so excited! Everyone was excited to be meeting together, and there was a really positive vibe when we broke up and everyone was sharing ideas and getting to know each other.

Very cool!!
We only had 4 [excluding myself and Peg] at our group on Saturday. It was cold, perhaps that didn't help matters. I just don't think there's a real interest in our town. There are 3 families that I know that have CD, but do not attend. They know about it, I've talked to them about it. I know them personally. Perhaps they don't like me!!
I made up some flyers that will be distributed about.
Way to go!! Keep up the good work! _________________ Al

That's really awesome Colleen. I keep telling myself I'm going to go to the one in Kalamazoo, but I'm scared to death to go alone, and I'm the only one I know around here who has Celiac. I think I missed this months, but maybe I can make myself go next month.
Al, how could anyone not like you? We all love you here. Maybe some people don't like the fact that you know things that could help them . You'd hate me if you knew me because I'd always be asking you a million questions. (Wait, I already do that ) |

Good job Colleen!
I would go to meetings if there were any around. It seems like most of them are in the suburbs and with the traffic and work it is hard to get up the motivation to go. If there was something dowtown I would go for sure! It would be nice to talk to people (in person) who are dealing with the same stuff you are. I don't know anyone here who is. _________________ Rachel |

Hehehee You haven't seen me when I'm grumpy But you're right - I am pretty lovable <GACK!>
Couldn't you bribe a friend or sympathetic co-worker to tag along to a meeting or two? After 1 or 2 meetings, you might feel more comfortable going by yourself...maybe even find an eligible GF bachelor in the process _________________ Al

Our local grocery store had a GF meet-up last summer. The idea was to gather local GF people and get their input on stuff in the store. I figured I'd be the only one there (and would scarf down all the free samples). Not only did a ton of people show up, they were all incredibly friendly! I spent most of the time swapping tricks of the trade and eating cookies. And this is coming from a serious wallflower. So I strongly suggest checking out any meetings near you. Worst comes to worst: the people are awful and you never have to go again. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Al, you totally read my mind. I keep thinking about how much easier it would be to meet someone who is also gluten-free so that they understand. I did resolve myself to stay single after breaking up with Steve (he was horrible about understanding my diet and being careful around my food), unless I found someone who was also GF. I can't pass up the chance with a great GF guy for the sake of staying single. Maybe I will go next time...
Hopefully the meetings around here are as great as the ones Cruelshoes does. |

You should! There's this hawt GF guy that comes to our meetings sometimes... You never know if you don't go. You might meet Mr. Right!
