I am 26 and have been gf for a year after my diagnosis of celiac. My husband and I who have been together almost 9 years and married for 2, would like to start a family. I have a pre-pregnancy exam with my gyn doctor in about a month to talk to the doctor before we start "trying" to make sure every thing is good!

I just had a great bloodwork panel come back completely normal with my vitamin, blood sugar and cholestrol levels...I was wondering if there is anyone who has some insight into specific questions to ask the doctor about before getting pregnant, and while pregnant? My husband and I have started to think of ?s to ask but I was just wondering if there is someone that has already been through this that might help point us in the right direction!

Thanks!!! Very Happy

Since your bloodwork results came back good, and you are following the GF diet, your risk factors should be the same as a non-celiac. I can't think of any specific questions off hand you should ask.

Good luck, and enjoy the trying. Very Happy We got pregnant with our last one with one try. Oh, was my husband irritated.

We got pregnant before we officially started trying. My husband was strutting around very proud of himself when we found out after the first ultrasound. Wink

Best of luck to you, Sky!! The only thing you might want to do while you're pregnant is have your vitamin levels checked more often than someone without Celiac - just to make sure everything is absorbing correctly for you and the baby. We will be keeping our fingers crossed for you!! Smile

Hi, Sky! I am 3 weeks post-partum. I had issues with sugar in my urine at the end of my pregnancy because of high carbs in my gf diet. I ate Rice Chex the morning before a doctor appointment and got yelled at by a psycho doctor. I recommend care when eating lots of carbs.

Hope things go well for you!

Thanks for all of your advice. Smile

I just had my pre-pregnancy exam last week with my OBGYN doctor. He was great! He did a complete blood panel including my vitamin levels. He also requested that I get a Dexascan (bone density scan done) to ensure that I don't have bone loss, he also requested that I meet with a conselor, and a Paranatologist, have a flu and pnemonia vaccine, maintain a healthy BMI and such.

He also told me that once I am pregnant that he would like for me to have an early pregnancy ultrasound with additional bloodwork at 10 weeks. He said that I will probably also have ultra sounds alot more regularly than a non celiac.

But so far so good! I meet with the Paranatologist in December! Smile

Not Yet... Smile

So we have been trying now going on 8 months with no luck so far. All of my appointments went well in December, and I was doing great. In January I started having troubles with gluten in my environment. Like sharing keyboards, cleaning showers, shaking hands...ect... I ended up having to quit my job in May because I couldn't stop being exposed to gluten at work, NOT of my own doing. I am not sure if I am just super sensitive??? I actually ended up having a chemical sensitivity reaction to grass seed and couldn't breath and was rushed to Urgent care and put on steriods. The doc told me that my body was at a too toxic level and that it was resulting in chemical sensitivities that are to things I should not be reacting to... it was pretty scary!!!

I am on a 100% GF Diet, all of my hygene product, my husband and my dogs and cat are all gluten free.... there is no gluten in my house and I am compeltely off all processed foods, but the environmental gluten that keeps getting me is a little ridiculous!!!

Anyways... Our assumption is that is why we are still not pregnant. I had a bad glutening in April and it resulted in a 49 day cycle.

So we fiqured that it was cheaper for me to quit work and get healthy than it was for fertility drugs, althogh not many seem to understand or be sympathetic. But I don't need them too....

I guess I am just frustrated, Someone even told me at a church group that all I needed to do is have more self controll!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, I don't even shake hands with anyone on communions sunday at church anymore, because I got glutened that way......come on.... not to be mean, but this person did not have a lot of room to talk about self controll.....sorry I am just mad, and venting, because I feel isolated, and trapped by all this.

I am doing my best to make peace with it, but it has been a process.

Thanks for listening!!! lol

Don't let other people's ignorance get you too upset. Most times it seems that people want to tell you about the splinter in your eye while they don't seem to notice the 2x4 sticking out of their own. Hopefully being at home and less gluten exposure will get things going. It is difficult to wait & hope month after month and I hope you can find some peace while you are waiting! Blessings to you!
