The best brownies ever!

I went down to my local health food store and found 123 Gluten Free brand Brownie mix, which the store owner highly recommended. (her daughter also has CD and so she makes it a personal quest to load up the shelves with good stuff.) My son and I made these the other night, and he couldn't even tell the difference between these and "floured" brownies. I knew they were going to be good when I dumped the bag into the mixer and saw about 4 inches of pure milk chocolate chunks.

They were by far the very best I've had. They were kinda spendy though, $9.66 a bag at the store, but definately worth it for the occasional treat.

I hope all the 123 Gluten Free products are this good.

Were they even better than Gluten Free Pantry's Chocolate Truffle Brownies? I recently noticed that my local mainstream market carries the 123 Gluten Free brand. I'll have to give them a shot.

TEC, I'm not sure about the Gluten Free Pantry ones, I'm newly diagnosed so I've only been completely gluten free for about a month. (I've done it off and on for years.) The lifestyle is new to me and so is the entire shopping process.

GF Pantry kinda ticked me off last month when it took over 3 weeks to get an online order from them, so I'm steering clear till I get over my mad spell. Wink

You passed over a good one Al... If they pass the 17 year old teenage boy "Brownies are my way of life" test, how can one go wrong?

The shopping aspect of the GF diet is the most difficult part for me. There's no one place where I can purchase everything I use. I shop at 4 different stores that are in all directions-2 health food stores, Whole foods, Trader Joes and Albertsons(Jewel).

I recently found out that my local Albertson's store has two different sections of GF Products. The first area is near the Bob's Red Mill products. There they sell GFPantry, Bob's, Arrowhead Mills, Pamela's and a couple of other brands--mostly baking mixes. The second area is located near the pharmacy. In fact the Jewel staff didn't even know they had another area with gf products. That 2nd area has GF pasta, Authentic Foods, 123 Gluten Free, etc. I know Safeway also has a GF area. Maybe you can pick up some GFPantry items at your mainstream grocery store?

I think it's so much easier to deal with the CD thing if you have a group of people who are all striving for the same goal. 2 women from my local support group and I have recently created a CD friendship. It's nice to have someone to ask those ridiculous questions too. Also, participating in the support group has been hugely beneficial to me.

Nah, I didn't miss it. I'll just make sure I order GF Pantry either by phone or locally from now on.

I generally only pout for a month anyway. Smile

TEC, I wish I could find people here locally to share the ups and downs with like you have... but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Maybe your gastro, health food store or local hosp could put you in touch with people with CD. Heck, you could even start a local CD support group. I bet you would be very surprised by the number of people "who crawled out of the woodwork."

I know that there are a few people who post on delphi who are from LA...maybe that's an option.

I purchased the brownies from 123 Gluten Free also and they were amazing. You really can't tell the difference from regular brownies. My 9 year old can't stay out of them & my husband really likes them too (he's the celiac and the one I actually made them for but we are all eating them). If you buy them online at 123 Gluten Free they are only 6.59 +/- just order enough items to make it worth it with the shipping. They have a biscuit mix that is supposed to be better than regular biscuits also. Haven't made it yet but I did buy it. If its half as good as the brownies they should be good.
