I heard that you can save your receipts from food you bought for Celiac Disease & write them off of your taxes come April. Is this correct?

Yes this is correct! Food bought that is "special" or "over and above" the "regular" food you buy is tax deductable! So anything bought that is a speciality product for gluten free or bought at a heath food store works. Nothing like veggies, fruit, meats, etc. Just all the extra stuff you have to buy because you are on this diet.

But you have to have an offical diagnosis right?? Currently I do not have piece of paper that says I have been dx'ex with celiac. From what I understand - I would need that piece of paper. Please correct me if I wrong - that would be great!!! _________________ Al

I have an official diagnosis...but I've never showed it to anyone as far as I know...so I"m not sure about that sorry! I just know that we have gotten a tax deductable thing every year because of it though...I will try to check into it for you but it might take me a while! |

I checked and all I ever do is keep bills for things I buy because of my gluten intollerence (ie health problem) and list it under medical on the tax forms. I get my taxes done by a professional accountant and he has never said anything was wrong with that. So, if you want to try doing that and get your gf stuff with a tax break, then go for it! Wink All the stores I've ever bought stuff from actually recommending doing this...thats how I found out about it!

My siste-in law is a CPA she has her own business. The new tax laws for celiac is that u have to have $ 3,000.00 to benifit as a tax break. It could be from your food, DR'S or hospital.
