I am curious, I just got back my last blood tests which still shows I am getting gluten in my diet. Personally thought I was doing good. It is at least down from 224 to 40. I am just curious how many of you who are GF are getting now normal blood results. I am chewing myself out because I am really trying and once again feel like a failure. I know for a fact though I go days and days without anything that could have gluten. Is fixing my husband his regular food part of my problem. Is it in the air? When I make his biscuits I make my own. I only do this once every few months and freeze extra. He eats alot of what I eat but there are some things that just don't cut it plus the extra expense. I haven't yet found a good biscuit recipe and have tried more than I can count, from scratch to mixes. It is one of the few things that my gluten free flour just doesn't do well with. Sorry I am a little long winded.

HI dkad,

How long have you been GF?

It might take you awhile to find all the hidden stuff and cross contaminiation points.

Yes, it is in the air when you are making hubbys biscuits. You could be inhaling it and then swallowing it. Or it's getting into your biscuits. When do you make yours? Before or after his? Peg (my wife) always makes my stuff 1st - before any NGF flour has had a chance to poof around.

Have you gone thru all your meds, toiletries...that kind of stuff?

We are a split house too. My wife eats about 80% gf, except for bread, pasta and sometimes pizza. She actually like my chebe pizza better than delivery!

DKAD, try these to see if your husband likes them, then you can switch to GF for both of you. I found them on another website posted as "soft and chewy breadsticks" but I thought they were more like Pillsbury country biscuits or whatever they're called. Kind of bun-ny, biscuit-y things, that my non-celiac son said were awesome and my celiac son said (and I quote) "I like them". That's high praise from him. Only one person in the family with CD and the rest of us loved them.

1/4 cup shortening
3 tablespoons honey
2 eggs
1 tablespoon yeast
1 cup unflavored yogurt
1/2 cup potato starch
1 1/2 cups cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons xanthan gum
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon vinegar

Topping: Kosher salt and/or other herbs, grated cheese, sesame seeds, ect.

Directions: Preheat oven to 350.
Combine all ingredients.
Mix well to remove lumps. The dough will be quite wet.
Place dough in a pastry bag with a large round tip (or use a plastic lunch bag with a bit of a corner cut off).
Pipe dough into long strips (5-6 inches is nice) on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with toppings.
Bake 10-12 minutes, until golden brown.

I thought piping them was a bit of a bother, so next time (Saturday) I will just drop them on the cookie sheet and try that.

Linda and Al, thanks for some insite. I have been working on being GF for almost 3 years. I was diagnosed in Nov 2002, but didn't really start on a diet until after Christmas. I knew the temptations would be too great. I was told the day before thanksgiving. I usually make my husbands biscuits second. I do all of my stuff first. When my daughters are home and are making cookies before the flour is added I take out a portion and go to another area to finish mine. My husband eats most of what I eat, like your wife eats his own pasta, bread. I don't think it is 80% because I still buy him his cookies and other treats. Maybe I need to take up wearing a face mask when I am around reg. flour. Seriously!!!! Every once in a while I checked my lotions and stuff but they seem ok. I know my meds are ok.
Linda, copied off the biscuits. I will try them as soon as I get some plain yogart. This recipe is different than anything I have seen. Thanks. let you know how I liked them. My husband has eaten mine a few times but it is obvious he hates them because when I make his he eats 4 and mine 1.
I will keep chucking along. I so appreciate this board. It is my lifeline.

I use a gf all purpose flour blend. It is from Sylvan Border Farms. The biscuit and cookie recipes in there are wonderful and easy to make. I get this flour form Vitamin Cottage in colorao. Good Luck

Katie this is my main flour I use. I order directly from them, found it cheaper. You are the first one I know that uses it too. I buy it 12 bags at a time. I use it for almost all my baking needs. It doesn't do well for Angel food cake. I have a great recipe for that. SBF is the recipe I use for my biscuits but like everyone it just isn't the same. I keep searching for that better recipe,of which I do have one to try. I have found with this flour some foods have a little different taste but unless you point it out most people don't notice. I just know after buying many different blends this is my preference. I liked eating raw cookie dough and with this flour or other GF flours the temptation isn't there. I think I am aware of the little difference in tastes more than the people I serve it to. This is at least what my family tell me. But I am just picky and when you know how something is to taste you want it back. Well didn't mean to get so chatty. Need to get ready for church.
