There are sooo many cook books for either one but i dont wanna fork out the money and buy to many 30$ books (i hate cooking anyways). Most of the GF cook books has alot of hard recipes (for me that means over 5 diff. items and takes more than 45 mins.) And i am now finding out that im L.I Maybe anyone could tell me some low fat, fast, l.i and gf cooking books to check out , then my frown can turn upside down?! Thanks bunches. _________________ Ride it like you stole it! |

What do you mean "L.I."?
I have one cookbook that I use a lot even though it's not technically GF. It's Saving Dinner the Low Carb Way, by Leanne Ely. She is a nutritionist who advocates cutting way back on the refined carbs, thus the "low-carb". Her recipes are quick, easy, economical and absolutely delicious. Her books are set up using weekly menu plans that even include shopping lists. She maximizes use of certain ingredients during the week to minimize waste. All the recipes in her book would easily convert to GF if they aren't already, i.e. make sure chicken broth is GF.... I have yet to make a recipe of hers that I don't like.
She even has a web-site where she offers what she calls menu mailers. You subscribe, and she e-mails you a menu every week with shopping list included. She offers a GF menu mailer that utilizes her low-carb menu mailer modified to be GF. You can go onto her web-site and down load a sample menu to see if you like her stuff. That would save you the cost of buying a cookbook if you decide you don't like her stuff. Here's the link. http://www.savingdinner.com/
Al, I've been wondering if we could use a section on the board just for cookbook reviews? Like motox said, cookbooks are $$$, and it's hard to know which ones are good when you first go GF, because it's not like any other cooking style. I think reviews would just get lost in the recipe discussion section, but a section people could go to for CB reviews would work well IMHO. I'd like to hear how others might feel about this. I wouldn't want to make more work for someone if no one would be interested.
edited...Duh! as I whack myself upside the head. L.I. lactose intolerant!!! LOL sorry. Didn't sleep well last night, so not responsible for lapses in AM. _________________ Steph |

Hi Moto,
Welcome to the board! I moved this post to another forum for better visibility.
Hmmmm, Low carb, GF & Dairy Free cookbooks...that are easy...maybe some of our cookbook aficionados can offer up a few suggestions.
Is your LI secondary to your gluten intolerance [damaged villi can't produce enzyme to break down lactose] or are you just plain LI [do not produce the enzymes period]?
If y'all want another forum for CB reviews - I'm fine with that. It's easy enough to add.
Hey Moto, my brother races. For 20 years, he'd leave snowy WI, and come to FL to race/ride in the winter for a few weeks. It looks like you have an interesting career! _________________ Al

Well i do know that if i have sweets like my fav. reese buttercups, my tummy goes crazy and bloats up. Im not to sure if im 100% L.I. but i am starting to think so. I started G.F. becuz i was having so many tummy problems and my gasto. told me he didnt think it was food allergys and he couldnt figure out why my stomach felt extra hard and bloated. it got to the point where it hurt to wear jeans or anything. So one day i was talking to my friend about it and he told me that his wife has C.D. and she had all the same prob.s that i do. Well i gave it a shoot becuz of med. bills (over $300 w/health insur.) and pain. Its been 4 weeks and ive been feeling so much better! Well now that its helping i decided to start eating cheese (which i never really ate much or drank really any milk) 4 extra energy and my tummy is starting to bloat some and alot of noises are making me worry. I hope its not the case of L.I. but i might have to face it. I did try some diary free ice cream and it didnt hurt my stomach. Well what do u think haha im open for any suggestions, i mean if it isnt going to cost 300$ and maybe surgury(which he said would help my problem)<~~no thanks lol im only 22. _________________ Ride it like you stole it! |

Check out the cookbooks by Carol Fenster. She has great recipes with adjustments for those avoiding dairy, eggs, etc.
Whenever I have a new cookbook I want to try, I always check it out of the library first. It's a great way to try it before you buy it. You might check your library to see what titles they have. _________________ -Colleen

I too am GF and recently discovered I am fairly LI --I don't like to fuss with lots of ingredients when I cook, so I have developed simple recipes all gluten-free and most of them dairy-free as well.
You can find them here:

I hope this helps and good luck _________________ http://www.elanaspantry.com/ |

A good book is eat right for your blood type. I started reading and cooking from that and it helped that was befor I knew what was making me sick. Drs. were no help they just wanted to give me pills or charge $$$$ to tell me there is nothing is wrong with you go home.
I am bloat freeeeeeeeeeee and loving it. I have about 3 cook books and I do not use any of them. I pretty much look things up on the internet. I found a great sweet and sour sauce. I find Thai Pai noodles with gluten free sauce is good add veggies meat and eggs.
I make fried rice with meat and eggs. I eat corn tortillias you can make lots of mexican foods. Cheese does not bother me the cheese that is on frozen foods does. I eat goat cheese , mostly white cheese is ok for me.
Meat loaf is easy to make with gluten free bread crumbs or oatmeal.
There are alot of gluten free pancake mixs and cake mixs. Gluten-Free pantry french bread and pizzs mix is yummy and sois the bread mix. Pamelas chocolate cake mix is real yummy.
I pretty much make up my own recipes with rice and rice noodles. You can make the french bread and add a sauce with veggies and meat.
Once you start making up stuff with what you got you will be amazed how good it tastes.
There are wheat free bbq sauces and you can make BBQ chicken. Taco salad with corn chips. Taco gluten free seasoning.
Heck we should have a recipe contest on who can come up with the best weekly meal lol. Kathie |
