I would probably keep some stuff GF, but would enjoy Papa Gino's pizza again (as well as some other New England based chain restaurants..) I would also LOVE to have my mom's baking again and not having to bring my own food everywhere. Being able to stop somewhere for a quick sub or sandwich while we're out shopping would be great.

Good question! I would certainly revert back to NGF if I could. It would be purely for convenience*. It's hard to have to plan every single speck of food in advance.

* And because I'm seriously longing for some fishy crackers right now.

I would like to officially emphasize the above statement. This week alone I'm missing out on home-made cookies and a lovely authentic Japanese meal with friends. I can't even drink the f****** tea because I don't know what's in it. Next week I'll miss out on pizza with my coworkers.

YES. I WOULD LIKE TO BE NGF NOW PLEASE.

Sorry Os Crying or Very sad I wish I lived near you because I'd bring you the biggest, baddest batch of homemade GF cookies I could make!

I think what it comes down to with most of us is probably not the dietary restriction per se. It's just wanting to be "normal."

I learned to be an adventurous eater in college - before that, I was very picky and ate only bland food. Until going GF, I prided myself on being willing to try (and often liking) food from many other cultures (excluding, perhaps, anything that contained insects in any form). Now, I'm afraid to try new restaurants or eat food that my friends make. It actually wounds my pride that my step-FIL refers to me as being "picky" - as if this were a choice (yeah, I'm really picky because I choose not to be sick for the next several days just so I can eat something you made). That is so frustrating - there are so many tastes out there to discover that I just can't or won't try now.

OTOH, I was in the grocery store while hungry today thinking about this question, and glad that I couldn't pick up a lot of the junk food that would normally tempt me when I'm too hungry to care about good food choices. Wink

No, I wouldn't go back. I feel so much better now - no migraines, flatter stomach, no aches and pains. I feel like a previous poster does - I think gluten is a toxin for everyone and I am beginning to believe that all grains and legumes fall into that category. I am reading Primal Blueprint right now and it is very interesting.

The question was, if you could would you go back to a NGF diet. To me that meant then one would not have CD or symptoms of gluten exposure. Of course if one was celiac then he/she wouldn't start eating gluten.

So, if you could eat gluten and be healthy would you?

That was my read on the question too, and my answer is an unequivocal YES.

I read the question the same way you did, and I say YES. Goodbye GF. Would there still be foods in my diet that did not caontain gluten? Absolutely. But all the label reading for gluten and calling manufacturers and packing food everywhere and avoiding restaurants without GF menus? I'd gladly kiss all that goodbye.

"If I could, would I revert back to NGF" *Disclaimer - this assumes that CD/NCGS is not a factor*

Yes, the question was referring to switching back to NGF, if CD/NCGS did not cause problems...there were no medical/symptomatic issues that required you to stay away from gluten. Another way to think about it... "If you had a magic wand and made your body stop reacting to gluten - would you go back to the NGF lifestyle?"

I was also interested as to what degree of GF/NGF you would retain.

I am somewhat surprised at the results of this. I expected to see more people turn their back & ditch GF all the way. I think it shows that we've learned a few things along the way about our food, our health & our bodies. That my friends - is a good thing!
