I had a good eating experience at this Spa (and a massage too!) and thought others might appreciate this story...

I was very reluctant to go on this day trip because they offered a buffet lunch, but my girlfriends really wanted to go. So I sent an email and the reply said something like, "We are familiar with food allergies. Talk to your reservationist about your needs when you call." Since my girlfriend actually made our reservations, I called later and couldn't get the right person on the phone. The lady I spoke to was vague and unhelpful and had me leave a voicemail for the manager of the spa.

She called me back and assured me that they could provide a gluten-free meal for me and I would just need to remind them when we check-in. Of course I was nervous about this. I resisted my urge to pack a bunch of snacks--I have never had a problem with Hershey's chocolate and figured that there would be a lot of that around at least. There was.

When we arrived the check-in person knew I needed a gluten-free meal and told me that the restaurant manager was prepared. At lunch time, we went to the restaurant and the buffet had exactly one gluten-free thing on it--shrimp. But the manager said that they were preparing a special meal for me and not to touch the buffet.

He came back a few minutes later with a plate with a turkey sandwich on it and a beet and fennel salad. I was completely surprised. They had gluten free bread! I was in a bit of disbelief but when I took a bite and the bread crumbled apart, I was sure it was indeed gluten free.

The sandwich was not great, but I didn't care. I have long since learned to forgo some of the best tasting foods in the world in order to maintain good health, so whatever! It was safe. And the beet salad was very good. I had some icecream for dessert and was completely stuffed.

The next week, our family visited Hershey Park where I had a gluten-free pizza for lunch. It was as good as Unos. There were many places that offered gluten-free food in the park. I had no problems.

I know that some have had a bad opinion of Hershey for one reason or another but I, for one, am a happy customer.

Kathy
