jeant posted this link to Good Eats Boutique on another thread. It's a little shop that has opened up on Stevens Ave. in Portland, Maine. I stopped in today, and of course had to buy a few things. They have a mix of GF and NGF baked items.
I asked about their CC practices. The clerk told me that nothing at all is made on the premises. All the baked goods are produced by 14 different bakers and delivered. She said the GF items are produced in a strictly GF kitchen.
The only thing that made me a little nervous was that the GF items were in cases with NGF things. However all things were wrappped securely, and I didn't see crumbs lying around, so I felt safe buying something there. I have made a mental note to talk to the owner when she is in to ask her about the level of training she provides her staff to prevent CC when handling a customer's order.
I purchased a Chocolate Sin Cake with raspberries. Believe me, it's named appropriately. The cake is about 4" round, but was so rich I could barely eat 1/4 of it. It was absolutely delicious. My granddaughter chose a GF cupcake. It was a chocolate cupcake with white frosting. I really felt the cake part left something to be desired. I don't know what kind of flour blend the baker uses, but the cake seemed dry and had a gritty texture, but my granddaughter licked every bit of the frosting off. To me that's the only reason to eat cake anyway.
They have more things available on Thursdays, including some breads, and you can special order other things, such as BD cakes, pies, brownies, etc. It's in a great location with parking right on the street in front. _________________ Steph |
