When I made it pre-GF, there were never any leftovers to store. Most crockpots have a removable liner, so you could probably store that, covered, in the refrigerator. Using a liner like Os did would make it easy to transfer to another container, though.

I look forward to hearing your review. I do love the Namaste chocolate cake mix. It is slightly bigger than the BRM cake mix, so it will be interesting to see how yours turns out.

I would think the pineapple would be undrained, too. An 8 oz can is not too big. I can't wait to try that recipe! It will most likely be this weekend. _________________ -Colleen

You're very welcome, guys! Just happy to help. A couple things I would change:
1. Looking back, I would definitely turn the crock off after 5 hours. I'd still let it sit and "finish" with the lid on. The chocolate edges were a little well done. Not burnt, but enough to make me not want to eat them.
2. I would mix the chocolate chips throughout the mix, instead of laying them all on top. It's good when the mix is still warm, but forms this odd crust when it cools. Just make sure they don't all end up on the edges.
3. Keep in mind that the BRM mix is 2oz less than the original recipe. I imagine this would work just as well if you were 2oz over the original recipe. Just something to remember.
celiacmaine-iac - Deal! I usually get the liners from Walmart. I believe they're in the baggie/plastic aisle. Please let us know how well the Namaste mix works!
TEC - I would certainly make this again (with the above changes). I was OK with the level of moisture in the cake. The cocoa powder is a really good idea too!
gfpagan - I don't know. I haven't gotten to them yet. I scraped out as much as I could, dumped it into a tupperware container, and stuck it in the fridge. With the higher moisture level I imagine it'd nuke just fine. You could probably eat it cold, too.
cruelshoes - Storing it in the liner is a good idea. The only thing is the liners are made for larger (6 quarts or more) crocks. When you brought this to work was it already mixed up? I'd do the same thing, but I don't think 1 crock is enough to feed my entire office. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

| Why can't the cake just sit on the counter? I never refrigerate cakes. Do you all? |

Nope, it's either A) consumed B) sits in the pan on the counter C) frozen for later consumption.
I suspect putting cake in the fridge would dry it out, just like it does to bread, no? _________________ Al

Normally we leave cakes and baked goods (not bread) on the counter as well as they don't stay around long enough to spoil. Would you have to refrigerate this one because of the pudding and moist texture? _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |

I threw this cake in the fridge because 1) I throw everything in the fridge, 2) I don't have much counter space and 3) I've always thrown baked goods in the fridge. I'm usually the only one eating them, so they need to last awhile.
I'm happy to report this cake does perfectly fine when cooled. I had some last night for desert, straight out of the fridge. Still moist and chocolatey. I'm sure it would be OK on the counter too. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Maybe not this cake since it's so moist, but most cakes IMO most cakes dry out in the refrigerator. I really despise refrigerated bakes goods.
The freezer is a baked good's friend though. |

I made this today using the Namaste Chocolate Cake mix. The original recipe called for an 18.5 oz. box of NGF cake mix. When I pulled the Namaste out of the pantry I thought it said 1 lb. 3 oz. at first glance. A little later I realized it said 1 lb. 13 oz. I really thought that would be way too much in the recipe, so I measured out 18.5 oz. and made the cake with that. It really came out great. It reminded me of the old hot fudge pudding cakes that form their own sauce while baking. It was terrific with vanilla ice cream. So, if I buy another Namaste mix, I think I should be able to get 2 more of these cakes with what's left over from the first bag. The grandkids loved it, and it couldn't have been easier. I think I will refrigerate the left-overs because it's a moist cake with a lot of eggs and sour cream, just to be on the safe side.
I can't wait to try the spice cake version that kb9oyo posted. I'm going to add a little coconut to it also, and make a little cream cheese frosting to dollop on instead of ice cream. _________________ Steph |

About how much of the bag is 18oz?

Os, I just measured what was left in my bag of Namaste and it is 1-1/2 cups.
I mixed my chocolate chips right in and they didn't burn. I suspect that if someone has a problem with that, that their slow cooker is cooking too hot. Slow cooker temperatures can vary widely, even within the same brand.
Colleen-Thanks for such a great recipe! I think this one deserves a TNT rating. _________________ Steph |

Al - do your admin powers allow you to move this to the cake section? Then after one more person tries it we could give it the TNT seal of approval. Is that what we agreed on a million years ago 3 votes for a TNT? I plan to try it this week. I am really glad you guys tried it and liked it.
Steph - what size is your crck pot? Did you use the liners? _________________ -Colleen

The crockpot I used for this is 4 qt. I didn't use a liner, because cheap won out over convenience (as it usually does. ) _________________ Steph |

So you measured out 1.5 cups, and whatever was left in the bag was 18oz? Did I get that right?
And thanks for the chip review! I'll mix mine in next time. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={
