Is anyone out there dealing with colitis as well as celiac disease? I have been on a gluten free diet now for a year and a half. Before I went on the GF diet I had chronic diarrhea. I still have it even though I am very strict with my diet. I was very persistent in going back to my GI doctor and finally 3 months ago, he looked at my sigmoid colon and took biopsies. It turns out that I also have colitis. He gave me some anti-inflammatory medicines but they do a number on my diabetes. I cannot take them and still control my diabetes. I need help. The diarrhea is a constant thing in my life and is very frustrating to me. I eat only a few fruits, alot of vegatables and natural meats. I have gone through all of my soaps, shampoo, make up etc. I read alot of the messages from other CD friends and it seems that they are feeling great after a few weeks or more. This is not the case for me. I want to know if it is taking others out there longer to get better even though they are following the diet guidelines? Is anyone else dealing with chronic diarrhea due to the colitis. It is not the ulcerative kind thankfully. I have also tried to be careful as far as things that contain yeast. I recently have been taking probiotics as well. I also have had elevated liver enzymes (AST-39 & ALT-44). I was told by my doctor that these levels are not that high. One good thing is that my last dexa-scan for osteoperosis was much better. Please send me some encouragement.
