Well I had my first glutening ...been gluten free for one month...
I added some Ancient Harvest Quinoa Flakes to my meatloaf...
Within a short time I was nauseous, bloated, filled with gas, and had some major tummy pain...
Well I must have misread the label...because, here is what is says right on their website...My tummy says they must have not washed down their equipment very well...LOL Nothing else in my meatloaf had gluten in it...
On the package of your Quinoa Flakes box it states this item is "Processed in a facility that also handles wheat and soy under Allergen Control Procedures", what does that mean and what is the parts per million of gluten (PPM) in the Quinoa Flakes:
Our Quinoa Flakes are custom manufactured for us by the highest quality organic flaking processor in North America. While this company also handles gluten bearing products in their plant, our product is handled in a unique and special manner. By contract, our quinoa flakes are manufactured only one time a month and only after the production area is shut down for a mandatory intensive clean out and wash procedure. Only after this cleaning process is complete are our Quinoa Flakes organically processed and packaged before any other product is introduced into their system. This is a time intensive and expensive procedure, but insures us a truly Gluten Free product that has consistently tested “None Detected” for gluten that goes down to <10 ppm (parts per million).

I have used that product many times without issue. Anecdotal experiences aren't always the best judge of whether or not something contains gluten. They do perform testing on the product, and it tests as having no detectable gluten. Symptoms aren't always a good gauge.
But if you feel it does not agree with you, by all means don't use it. _________________ -Colleen

This could also be because you're not used to those amounts of fiber. I agree with Colleen: if you don't feel well then don't use it. But I wouldn't consider their product to be NGF. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Plain old quinoa, while I really like it, certainly has a roto-rooter affect on me. I have arrowhead mills quinoa. Their site lists it as gluten-free which it naturally is unless CC'd. _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

I use Ancient Harvest products without problems. Perhaps quinoa is what doesn't agree with you. Others have posted that they can't eat it. _________________ Sandi ~ learning to live in a world obsessed and infested with wheat.

Both quinoa and millet make me gassy enough to take off like Astro Boy. _________________ Pat |

I found it took me a while to adjust to some of the new things I'd never eaten before. Sorghum really gave me a lot of gastro symptoms at first, but I took it really slowly, and eat it often now, with no problems at all. _________________ Steph |
