I don't know how many of you are familiar with the AngelFood program, but they do carry an "allergy free box" of breaded chicken, (nuggets, wings, tenders and patties) and breaded beef patties or fingers that are WONDERFUL for fast meals--out of the freezer and into the pan. (That's MY kind of cooking ) and they're MUCH cheaper than the stuff you get at the health food stores. You can check: www.angelfoodministries.com to see if they're available in your area and the monthly menu is provided. It's a good program. _________________ The opportunity to find happiness dances within every moment, beats within every heart, and grooves within every occurrence, situation, and event----Let's dance!.

Cool! I have looked at that before, and there was never a site close to me. Well now there is! And this is their first month of doing it! What great timing. I am definitely checking that out.
Thank you for posting! _________________ -Colleen

I have bought these a few times....bought some of the regular meat boxes as well. Seriously helps the budget and the food is good. Danielle says the chicken nuggets are way better than the gf ones we have bought in the stores. I made the chicken fried steaks for the whole family & my husband liked them better than the ones we used to buy before daughter got celiac.

I sent this info out to the members of my support group last night. Thanks for the info. I am going to order an allergen free box this month to try it out. If it isn't to our liking, I won't be out much.
Have any of you bought the fruit boxes? It seems like a pretty good price if the quality of the fruit is good. _________________ -Colleen

I tried this just this month and was not really that impressed. The baked goods are horrible in my opinion and the meats came out soggy. Maybe I did something wrong with them, but don't think I'll be doing this again. _________________ ~Erin~

Baked goods? I don't see any GF baked goods on the website. Can you point them out to me? _________________ -Colleen

$5 a lb for the allergen free breaded meat seems really expensive! I'd much rather pay $2 a lb for chicken breasts and cook them with a little bit of salsa or lachoy sauce. I can get a whole rotisserie chicken for $5, so it's a horrible value for me. _________________ Lauren

cruelshoes, I noticed the baked goods were not part of the package this month, but they were last month. 4 lbs of different things which I was excited about, but they are are all really bad. _________________ ~Erin~

Very true--however it's a vast improvement on the $7 for 2 breaded chicken patties that the health food store charges! It's not something I live on but I find them a real convenience to keep in the freezer for those crazy-busy days.
I haven't tried the baked good stuff yet so thanks for the heads up. I guess I won't bother. (Especially when I can get decent GF baked stuff at the Vince and Joe's Fruit Market near me. They even make "Bumpy cake. Nyah, nyah, nyah nyah nyah!) _________________ The opportunity to find happiness dances within every moment, beats within every heart, and grooves within every occurrence, situation, and event----Let's dance!.

True, I am lucky to have a grocery store so close to the house so it's nothing to run out and pick up a chicken quickly. I guess the breaded chicken is a more appealing alternative if you have kids that want it or no grocery stores close by. _________________ Lauren

That's exactly what I am looking for. Sean will absolutely love these if they taste even halfway decent. He just wants to feel normal once in a while. And I am DYING for a little convenience. My home cooked meals are great, but occasionally it is nice to have something pre-made. I am being selfish, I admit it.
I placed my order this morning, just in time to make the October deadline. Pickup is next Saturday. I am really looking forward to it. It will be an adventure, anyway. And the package price has been lowered to $23 starting next month. _________________ -Colleen

Well, I picked up my order today. The church where I went was extremely well organized. Everyone had on matching shirts and there must have been 100 happy people working there. A teenage boy grabbed a cart for me and walked me down the row to get my food. Then he even loaded it into my car for me.
When I got home and asked my kids if they wanted to have chicken nuggets for lunch, Sean must have stared at me for 30 seconds before he said "Nuggets?.....NUGGETS?!?!?!?!!?" Then he went running through the house screaming "nuggets!" We haven't had any pre-made nuggets for years. One package was plenty for all 5 of us for lunch. I also sliced up the pineapple and served some baby carrots from the fruit box. All of the produce was really good quality, very fresh. I was pleasantly surprised that the breaded meats are not loaded with fat, most of them are quite low, actually. The nuggets were delicious. It feels great to have 4 more packages of convenience in the freezer.
All in all, I would not hesitate to buy this again. I am excited to try some of the recipes that came with it too! I am placing another order next week for the November pickup! _________________ -Colleen

Glad they worked out for you! I have read about this on other online sites, and was always curious about the quality. I am not a huge fan of nuggets, but my sister who is also gf has two little boys who would love them. And then she could enjoy them too. Convenience is a good thing! Thanks for letting us know, I'll pass along the info.
And SO happy that your little guy got so excited. I get that excited at age 30 when I find something "normal" that I can have, I'm sure his face was priceless! _________________ "To give up enthusiam wrinkles the soul" |
