If you are wondering what type to take render gluten harmless for a celiac - there really is none - yet. Sure there are some products that on the market, however they should not be taken by celiacs. These products do not give you the license to woof down ngf pizza & burgers. _________________ Al

i take Kyo-Dophilus sometimes, esp if I decide to eat dairy. I'll also take half of a Buddy Bear chewable enzyme in that case - I got them for my son but I like them too. I also have Jarrow S. Boulardii capsules. I don't take any of these daily - should I? I don't know. I just kind of do it by what I'm eating and by my gut - pun intended... I'm going to look into these others _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

bbillcee - Those types of products have been debated here numerous times. The short answer is: no, not really. There's no proof those things actually work. The placebo effect doesn't count. Al is right. There isn't anything you can buy that will help you digest gluten. The only solution is to stay away from it. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Viokase, by prescription, with every meal or snack. My pancreas no longer produces sufficent digestive enzymes.

I used to use Kyo-Dophilus that I got from GNC, but I'm taking Probiotic Acidophilus (the brand is Schiff) right now because I ran out of the first one, and needed to get something quick. I thought the Kyo-Dophilus worked better, so I'm impatiently awaiting the other one to be gone. (it's not that it doesn't work, I just don't think it works as well for me)
The Kyo-Dophilus states it is free of gluten on the label. I e-mailed Schiff to determine if it is gf, and they took approximately 2 weeks to get back to me to confirm, but they did confirm.
I take probiotics to assist with my dairy issues. I can't do soy at all unless it's very small amounts in baked goods, and I'm able to tolerate dairy better if I'm on probiotics.
I wouldn't consider purposely consuming gluten to see if it helps with that, so I have no idea, and I don't recommend anyone else try that either. I would be too afraid that it would be causing long-term damage even if it did help with the short-term reaction. |
