I'm running really short on time. Just wanted to get this started.
Last night Peg & I celebrated 18 years of being institutionalized. We went to the movie "Couples Retreat". It was funny movie. The resort was in Bora Bora - The french polynesia - fantastic scenery. Oh, yeah, the water, mountains and trees were great too.
Gotta run...
Hey Judy, your bread is almost gone. I had 2..yeah...2 turkey pesto sandwiches for lunch today. Thanks! _________________ Al

Congrats Al and Peg! It sounds like a good time.
Man, November's going to be busy. I have several birthdays (including my own), relatives flying in, a baptism, and Thanksgiving to worry about. Oh, and working overtime to cover all those activities. Ugh. Should be fun, but busy as hell. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Congrats Al & Peg.
Os, your month sounds like mine, but mine is mainly busy due to Thanksgiving. I'll be headed back to Minnesota to have Thanksgiving with family, and I volunteered to make ALL the food for everyone. This includes, me, brothers, sister, aunts, uncles, cousin, grandparents, and my parents. I don't want to second guess anything I eat, so I decided it's safer if the whole thing is gf.
The tough part comes in when I have to bring some of the pots/pans, dishes, etc from Michigan to Minnesota along with everything else I'll need for a week away from home, my 2 dogs and enough of their stuff for a week, and I'm picking up a friend in Chicago to take him back to Minnesota for the holiday. I'm not entirely sure how I'll fit all that into my Malibu.
I've been spending every extra moment testing out recipes and working on the menu so that I'm sure everything turns out great, and so that I know how to do it. That makes the best part about this--I'm eating VERY well this month.
Whew, other than that, I don't even know... Ask me when the month is over. |

Congrats, Al & Peg
Here in Corpus Christi we are starting to cool down and get rid of the humidity. It should be a busy month with the holiday and kids activities. _________________ STZ

I am going to Michigan for Thanksgiving. My neice is having Thanksgiving at her house, so I will just take something with me to eat, as I can't eat anything they make, and I don't expect them to fret about me. I just want to see all the family, I personally do not care about eating.
My youngest grandson, Trevor 20 months, is now talking. My daughter puts him on webcam, and when I say, "I see you Trevor", he gets his face right up to the camera and says, "I see you." A precious age.
My daughter is coming back with me and spending December with me, which will be nice. I love it here, but I do get lonely for family. _________________ You can't discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore! |

Congrats Al and Peg!
Not too much going on around here. Things have been low key on the GF front. I haven't been doing very much baking-just from lack of time. Work has been keeping me busy. November is also shaping up to busy with work as well. I have no thanksgiving plans, but I'm not working so that is a huge plus. I think I might make some party mix today....having a craving. _________________ Rachel |

Crap, I haven't even thought about the Thanksgiving meal! We're pushing to deep fry the turkey this year, but that's all I know. Perhaps I'll bring along some GF food too.
Oh! DH told me he found GF gravy mix at our local grocery store. Works just like normal mix: add some liquid and heat it up. They had several different kinds of flavors, but I don't know the brand. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Thanksgiving is my most favorite holiday! I'm so excited for this year. I am taking a week off and flying home (MA). Last year was my first GF Thanksgiving, and it was definitely a success. It was also the first year we had it at my house (well, technically I guess it's not my house anymore). It wasn't because of my GF-ness though. Anyway, this year we are resuming Thanksgiving as usual and will be going to my Aunt's house in Sharon, MA. I love going back to that town, since that's where I spent my first 12 years of life and it's fun to go back and see how things have changed/stayed the same. Also, my dad's side of the family is awesome and I love spending the day with them!
My day will first start out with a 5k race in my hometown. I always run this with my friend from HS, who now lives in VA, so it's great to run with her and catch up on life. Then my dad and I will do some cooking, so I can eat!! My Aunt is very cute and gets all worked up about food (not just b/c of me, but that she's cooking everything). She just has that always stressed out disposition. I can tell that she's been researching celiac/gluten intolerance, b/c she'll say things sometimes that I know I didn't tell her and that she wouldn't know without reading about it. (like they are planning on deep frying the turkey and she mentioned how they'd have to buy new oil). She asked my parents to ask me what she could make me, but obviously I'm not going to let her make me anything. The kitchen will be covered in everything! My dad and I are going to plan a little menu so I can bring a few things with me. Honestly, Thanksgiving isn't even about the food for me. I just love Fall, football, family.......hmm, anymore F's? I'm very lucky to have a supportive family....I know everyone's family isn't so supportive...so I hope all of your holiday's are great, even if you aren't as lucky as me.
Other than that, November means the end of field hockey season for me, which is always sad. My last tournament is Nov 14-15th, then no more hockey until next year. Working, football, running through the progressively chillier temps, my best friend's bday...that's about it for November. |

Congrats Al and Peg!
Happy B'day Os!
Things are settling down here a bit - October was pretty crazy! Parents and grandparents anniversaries, sister's East Coast reception, and Halloween. This month will be pretty mellow except for Thanksgiving. We're going to my mom's as always and I will bring my food - including a GF pie or two. (Maybe just a slice of what ever I make since I am the only GF one in my family..)
Joe is getting so big! He's about 27 lbs at 14 months. He's walking and talking - getting a few more words everyday. Soon he'll be telling us exactly what he wants instead of just pointing and grunting. He knows "banana", "dog", "doggie", "Mama", "dada", "dat", "no", "uck" (for truck), "ar" for car, that dogs woof, cats meow, cows moo and cars/trucks/lawn tractors go vroom. Pretty funny! He enjoyed his first trick or treating this Halloween. Our neighbors liked seeing him all dressed up. He was ok with costumes as long as faces weren't painted and no fake mustaches. (The afore mentioned sent him running away and crying...)

Hey all, checking in.
I had two OB appointments (last night and one this morning) due to a "fluke" we had on the heart monitoring.
Apparently my little guy is "too big" and is stressing my body something major. I got really faint last night and today while we did the monitoring, something that hasn't happened to me - except when I had a panic attack this last month while dealing with an issue we had with Jonathan.
The baby is so high up in my chest cavity that it is stressing my lung/heart function, and apparently he had pinched off a nerve that helps control my circulation both times, which is what stressed us both. From what we saw on the heart monitor, he is doing great, it's me that the doc is really concerned about... I don't blame him - after what happened today, I got pretty scared too!
So, within about a week - we will have another little one in this world. . . letting us know his needs/wants and giving us love on the outside.
Just keep us in your thoughts and prayers. thanks! _________________

Boy! You guys are all so busy and frantic getting ready for the holidays--(and baby) and all I'm doing is looking forward to the Thanksgiving Day Parade. (I miss that delightful "brief case drill team the rest of the year!) I don't know whether to be jealous or thankful. Probably a combination of both. My mom is having dinner for my brother's family and me so I only have to make a few Jello salads and that'a easy enough. My sister is punishing herself by not speaking to the rest of us and, consequently, she won't be joining us for dinner and she'll be missing out on some yummy GF stuffing--(Blechhh! ) Somehow, that's the one thing NOT replicatable in GF.
Hope all of your holidays are wonderful. _________________ The opportunity to find happiness dances within every moment, beats within every heart, and grooves within every occurrence, situation, and event----Let's dance!.

Congrats, Al & Peg and Happy Birthday Oz!
This has already been a crazy month and will just get crazier. The flu, my daughter's BD, getting the GIG newsletter together, two major GF food events to help plan and attend though the support group, traveling to CA. for the actual holiday with my SIL and her family.... _________________ Cheers!

Congrats to Al & Peg!
Happy b-day, Os!
keeping pretty busy with a 13 month old and an 8 week old! Very little sleep, but today we put the batteries in Gracie's baby swing and she was quiet all afternoon! Still can't believe we have another girl after 5 boys. We are enjoying all the pink and lacy garments!
Looking forward to T-giving with family. |

Yes... let the craziness begin! I love this time of year, though. Big news of the month is that I FINALLY have a new job! I am so excited to get out of the he!! hole I've been in the past two years! I swear I've never worked somewhere where employees are treated so poorly. I am very much looking forward to my new job. I start the 16th as an Office Manager for a retirement village. My manager duties are very small... I will supervise one part-time person. Mostly I will be doing Accounts Payable, Account Receivable, Medicare billing, and some payroll. I can't wait! It is a new satellite office, so I will have to commute until the end of the year for training. Wow... that was probably a bit too detailed! (but did I say I was excited! )
My GF daughter will be going to Thanksgiving with her boyfriend's family. They are in San Diego. That will be her first trip to California. He has been doing an awesome job of contacting me to get ideas of food for her. They are going to go to Disneyland as well. I'm very happy for her, but it will be weird not having her home much for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Well, I think that is all for now. Glad to hear everyone is doing good... Congrats Al & Peg... Happy birthday Os... Oh... and you folks with the little ones -- I hope you get some sleep! _________________ Kim --

Hi all...Well the Holiday Season is knocking on our door! This will be my first GF Holiday Season and lucky for me I am dong all the cooking...
My two young adult children will be coming home for Thanksgiving and I have decided to prepare an entirely GF Thanksgiving complete with homemade pies...My father in law and hubby's Uncle will make the trek up to Maine from Massachusetts and hopefully we can all stay well before Thanksgiving considering the extent of flu that is in our region..
So, I am SO excited to have my kids back home again...I never thought I would miss the phones ringing off the hook, or loud music blaring...or being a taxi cab driver but I do...I have a pretty bad case of the "empty nest", but I am so very proud of how well my kids are doing...I So having them back home again...together ....will be so very special...
Hope everyone's holiday is a good one
God Bless.... |
