Gluten Free Turkey...boy I am going to need a list...I need a BIG Turkey.
We usually get at least an 18-20 lb Turkey...
Yes...I am doing Thanksgiving this year and I was the one known for my famous Stuffing. I have decided to make it however...but not stuff the Turkey with it...I will put it aside refrigerated and warm it up. My prep area will be in a different area with different utensils etc. I will make GF Stuffing for myself as well...and thicken the Gravy with GF Flour...
Pies are not problem, I think I have the GF Baking down pretty good...no one will ever suspect....but I am skipping the rolls...
So much to think about!

Are you kidding?? Isn't turkey naturally gluten free????? Is it a problem of their diet, or of what is added to the ones you can get at the grocery store?
We have a very small turkey farm a mile or two away from us. Maybe I'll just get a wee one from them for Gus.
We'll be eating at my auntie's for dinner, but I'll be bringing all of Gus's stuff from my GF kitchen. _________________ Deb

All that I watch for our turkeys that are not injected with broth/brine/flavoring. I'm certain there's a turkey thread around here someplace that names the brands that are GF. I've never had a problem finding one at my local grocery store! |

You also have to watch for the gravy packet. We never use it, but most times it uses wheat flour. You also have to be careful not to poke a hole in the packet whilst extracting it.
Jenni-O turkey is from Hormel. They clearly label all gluten.
Cargil Turkey have written on them "Contain's no glutens or MSG" - this was last year. I haven't seen them this year.
FarmFresh Turkey - "Contain's no Glutens or MSG" too _________________ Al

We're going to have a house full of family and friends this year. Don't have the exact count yet, but I know I'm buying a huge-mungus turkey this year! And pies, lots and lots of pies. This is going to be my third GF Thanksgiving! I remember how terrified I was the first year. I had only been GF for about three weeks then. All things considered, it turned out pretty well. Now I don't give it a second thought.
Shady Brook Farms turkeys say that they are GF right on the label. Last year I checked about Marvel (or is it Marval) turkeys. They were GF too. Both brands are sold at Hannaford.

If Gus is the only one who will be eating that turkey, have you thought about just buying some turkey cutlets and roasting or sauteing them? It might be a lot easier to manage, especially if you are going to travel with food. _________________ Steph |

Or just cook him a cornish hen or small chicken and call it a turkey. While my family disagrees with me, I think both options taste better than roast turkey. |

Thanksgiving this year is going to be crazy, like every year. And like every year, I simply prepare myself for getting sick. DH and I will have our own, small, GF Thanksgiving dinner. But there's no way the family meals will be GF. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

We are going to KY, but hubby saw the turkey fryer at Lowe's that deep fry's without the oil (uses infared) and his birthday is next week. So when he decides between the fryer or the blow dryer for his motorcycle we'll know what were having for dinner. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |

Thanksgiving I at the Inlaws is on Thursday - The whole meal will be GF/DF. They are really accommodating when it comes to GF, so I really feel safe when I eat there. I expect I will provide the pumpkin pies. Hence, I have been baking/pureeing/draining all the pumpkins I grew in my garden this year. There is nothing better than a pie made from fresh (not canned) pumpkin.
Thanksgiving Redux will be at my parents' place on Friday. I offered to have it at my place, but was summarily shot down. Don't know why. Whatever. Pops will cook a turkey and make the potatoes, and he has put my sister and I in charge of working out the other details. I will probably make more pumpkin pies, and I am thinking crescent rolls. Maybe a fruit salad, too. _________________ -Colleen
